Teach your kid to make intelligent decisions by showing first hand where these paths lead. I was lucky enough to have one alcoholic/mental and one drug/gambling addicted parents. I got introduced to the real world real quick. Remember, alcohol is the gateway drug, and a one way ticket to cocaine, for people my age now its nuts. Cant go to one party without some jackoffs wanting to do rails... Which is why I don't party anymore, not that I really did. Cigarettes are just retarded in the fact of how much they cost, on top of that they just make you more aggravated when you don't have any. However I do love to antagonize nicfitters . Don't hassle her friends really, not a good method, just leads to more conflicts and not moving towards the actual issue.... Just catch her red handed, remember when kids get comfortable and lax they do make stupid mistakes.

![]() drinking... almost every teenager does it and the more you tell them not to the more they will do it. Drinking imo is alright as long as you do not drink and drive or drink to the point of getting alcohol poisoning. My mom let me drink back when I was 17 as long as I did not drive.

I hated my parents for how strict they were growing up. Everyday was a study in the old battle of kid against the parents. I hated them for it. I wanted to be with my friends so badly...
I thank GOD everyday for that. I would never change a thing. To this day, my "buddies" that were allowed all the freedoms I wanted are either in jail, living with their parents(at 35-40 years old) or trying to stay away from me. (I carry a badge and gun for the Feds) Be strong man...I love my parents everyday for it..

My advice, im 16 going on 17 pretty soon.
1. Take away all forms of social communication besides school. (cellphones, internet, whatever it takes.) 2. I would take away the car as well. Ive lost alot of friends to drinking, drugs etc. One of my friends was serioulsy injured in a car accident after drinking, some have even tried cocaine at my age, and the other day I was driving my dads friend home in his vette when he was drunk and he threatened to kill me in the car and kept putting the car in park, pushing my leg down on the gas, and grabbing the wheel. We almost had a wreck numerous times. Anyways at i dont think its right for kids around my age to mess with this stuff and ive lost alot of friends to it. |

I know a lot of people say it's wrong, but my mom smacked me around when I was a kid and I turned out fine.

Agreed. This whole notion of it being 'bad' to physically discipline a kid over just talking it out like a political debate is just...wrong. Where in the history of the human species has it been proven that 'talking it out' exclusively has resulted with a wholly stronger and more responsible person?
