Equinox?

Today I went to my dealer and discussed the option of doing a straight trade of my SS for an Equinox.

First, I love my car. It's all paid for, and I continually have permagrin. Hell ya'll know I post here all the time about how much I love my car. Recently, because of 3 tickets in 2 years and getting rid of my Impala (which gave me multi-car discount), my insurance has gotten pretty expensive. I have a $100 deductible and pretty high coverage as well.

So I have been wanting to explore options. Prior to my getting the Camaro, I had been looking at Audi's and other AWD cars. I wouldn't mind having AWD for the occasional snow and mountain trek. My Camaro is a DD, and I do go out in some snowy conditions, but there are times I would have gone in an AWD that I wouldn't in the Camaro.

Mainly, I wanted to know how much I'd get in trade, and it really isn't a whole lot. My car has been hit twice, both times in the front and for $11,000 damage each time. So I knew I was going to take a hit if I did want to sell it.

After having the dealer look at the car (all the while saying how much he loved the cars color, and how awesome it was), I got offered the low end of the scale I was expecting...essentially $22,000. I might be able to sell it privately for $26-27k privately if I included the second set of wheels/tires.

Essentially, where I was thinking I might be able to trade straight across for a Equinox 1LT, I'm about $3700 short. I would sell my extended warranty, which would get me about $1500 of that. They were even offerning me a loan for that, which I could cover...but I hate car loans because I hate paying interest.

Upshot of this is...I'm going to hang on to the Camaro. I love it too much. If I get a huge bonus sometime, I'll consider getting a AWD daily driver and sell the Camaro...and get a ZL1 as a race/garage queen car

Oh, and I did like the Equinox. I got to test drive one, and it was nice for what it is. I liked the backup camera and larger screen for the radio.

I'm willing to bet if you sold your Camaro, you'd have a lot of regrets.

Congrats on keeping your Camaro.

Yeah, you're right about that. I think the salespeople could see that too.. They're good people, but you could tell they wanted to not let me get out the door to really think about it too much...kept offering options.

On another note, I asked about the ZL1, and if they had used their alotment.

Apparently, they haven't, and so it sounds like they might have a ZL1 coming onto the lot if no-one buys it first.

A month after I bought my Camaro I bought a used 2005 Equinox. Even if I could afford a new one , I don't like the way they look. I would go for the GMC version.

The equinoxes have the engine mounted in the wrong way and the incorrect wheels do the most work.

WGAS?

I'd rather have an SUV as well but the Equinox works just fine for 99% of the people out there. It's easily one of the best products in its class and discounting it just because it's FWD is ridiculous.

The reality is that although we enthusiasts b*tch and moan about the diminishing population of true SUVs, the vast majority of the buying public could not care less which wheels drive the car or what off-road capability it has. SUVs still have a place in the market, but it's a small one.

We love our Equinox. My wife drives it daily as she takes the baby to day care. Im left driving our POS Kia Spectra.

I agree that men should probably opt for the GMC Terrain because its more manly looking, but nothing wrong with the Equinox.

I agree with the person who said why not just find an old Subaru outback or something for your DD? Used Subaru can be found for great prices and usually last a long time.

SOME PEOPLE NEED TRUE OFF-ROADABILITY. It's not for show, it's to actually be able to get to and from work on a daily basis 3-4 months out of the year. With the death of the Trailbalzer/Envoy the only thing left would be a full-size... and if we reach the desired (by some) goal of EU equivalent gas prices then I'm screwed. I'd then have to decide if I should sell my house and take a huge loss to move closer to work or get a wrong-wheel-drive Equinox and risk getting stuck somewhere that is unreachable by tow.

I like the equinox as far as quality and styling and all those points you made, but if GM can't make a version that does the job then I will be forced to look elsewhere. I REALLY do not want to have to buy a Jeep or an import. But they may leave no option.

My friend has a new one and I like it. Even the base model is pretty well equipped.

My parents have one, it is pretty quick, has a ridiculously good turning radius, a very nice set up for a center console, automatics have a Sports mode like our cars and their S mode shifters (buttons) are on the shifter. Very nice car

Simple answer. Its a CUV not an SUV. CUV are targeted as family vehicles, not off road capable, and not for towing.
