Soap opera..... 'As the Big 12 Turns' ... lol
So the Big 12 is seemingly imploding.
My opinion is take BYU, TCU and maybe even Utah if we could. Or instead of Utah (they have a pretty sweet deal now) then maybe an SMU or the Arizonas. PonyMan put this up in the College football thread. F-ing Funny as hell. Quote:

Baylor needs to learn their damn place. If it wasn't for Anne Richards, Baylor wouldn't even be in the Big 12 in the first freaking place.
As for your comment, TCU wouldn't get to the Big 12 with their new move to the Big East. Additionally, I believe the Big 12 would only add teams that increase their television markets i.e. Rice, SMU, TCU, & Houston wouldn't have gotten squat. My guess: OU, OSU, TTech, Texas -> Pac 12 making it the Pac 16 aTm -> SEC (duh) everyone else either Big East or Big 10 (now the Big 12, lulz) Left out in the cold: Baylor and ISU, poor poor ISU, nobody loves them.

While your thinking is sound. After the events of the passed few years and especially the passed few weeks, I think just about anything goes.
And like I said in the other thread. If the NCAA is really about viewership numbers, they are going to want to get the hard core football fans that are not into college, to GET into it. After all, my dad has a good point. 85 % of the games are uninteresting. And lack of a playoff NEVER gives you a TRUE champion because the best of the best don't all get a chance. Nobody wants to watch a game where your team is favored by 50+ ![]() And where you lose a game and your season is over. I like championships. Just like most fans should. To brag about a division title, or even conference title is stupid to me. It's much better of a game when everyone is realisticly setting thei goal to win it all. But even with 129 teams, after 6 weeks there are only 7 or 8 teams with a chance. And only 3 or 4 who control their own destiny without having to hope someone else loses. And when that someone else only plays 1 good team in their last 5 games it's stupid. |

i.e. 4 plays 1, 2 plays 3, winners play each other. This right here covers 3 of the 4 big traditional bowls (Rose, Cotton, Orange, Sugar Bowl). The 4th bowl becomes a rotating host (like the National Championship is now) and in the off years hosts a bowl game that is just a bowl game. OR you could take the top two teams from each super conference (the winner and the runner up) and have an 8 team playoff. to ensure the conference championships mean something, the winners of the conference titles get a 1st round bye. But then again, I don't have any money in this, so it will never happen. /Go GATORS! Hook 'em Horns! WE ARE....PENN STATE! //hey, leave me alone, my school didn't have a football team, and I spent 3 years surrounded by Gator and Horn Alumni and I'm from PA.

![]() I wish I coulda went to OU but I didn't have the money and I lived in Seattle. So Green River College had to suffice. ![]() Actually, the major bowls make up the BCS Bowls and the BCS NCG is the NC. They don't ratate anymore. It's held on each venue on a ratation, but well after the BCS regular game at that location. So actually the 5th game is the rotating host. It's not a really popular idea with true college spirit and students but the NCAA has to make up their mind what they really want. I can tell you this: ..... If OU wansn't a national powerhouse program, I wouldn't hardly even watch college ball. I'm not a college football fan, I'm an Oklahoma Sooners fan. Fortunately they are a power. But even as an OU fan, I can't watch them beat the F out of Tulsa, Nevada etc....... I see it all the time though. Fans watch the game where their team is favored by 45 point and they sit in front of the TV and pump their fist and high five each other when their team does the things that they are SUPPOSED to do. *Note to crazy whacky homer college fan ---- When you see your team is favored by 45 points, that means that a lot of money is bet that your team will win by that score. So when they score 21 points on their first 3 possesions..... It's expected, and even BET that they will. It's not like they did something amazing.* |

This whole system is screwed.....We use to choose a National Champion by the AP and Coaches......Now we have the BCS and STYLE points really means something.. Like PQ said who cares when you win 48-7 oner Kent St and this week we have the power house North Texas....oh goodie. I aint even wasting my money going.
The Big 12 is a great conference. They play a different style of football. Wide open offenses. The SEC is based more on defense so you have contrasting styles. People talk about getting Houston, Rice, SMU etc.....REALLY? Sure Texas wants that especially if A&M, OU, Ok St leave. WHo will contest Texas in a BCS conference with an automatic qualifying bid to a BCS Bowl game......Texas would dominate, especially if the do not play OU, OK St, A&M. Who would want to watch that. Texas will turn into Boise St, favored by double digits in every game.

I'm more worried about the residual effects! When the biggest conferences expand, some schools that are sitting pretty right now are going to get the shaft! If your school doesn't end up in one of the 4 supposed super conferences, they are going to end up in a MAC / Conference USA type situation. It's going to piss off a lot of people!

"Earlier, The Austin American-Statesman reported the Pac-12 was working out final details to add Texas and Oklahoma to the conference, along with fellow Big 12 schools Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. The Statesman cited a source close to the situation that stressed the deal is not yet complete, but that talks were "heating up."
A source told ESPN.com's Andy Katz the move to add Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State still has a long way to go before the Pac-12 leadership would be comfortable recommending it to the league's presidents, who have made it clear to the league's leadership that they don't want to expand beyond 12 at this point. The proposed deal would allow Texas to keep ESPN's Longhorn Network, though The Statesman reports the network would have to add other Pac-12 programming to the network." Sounds good to me!!! Four best teams in the Big12 the last ten years heading West........and the Longhorn Nation still gets to watch LHN!!! |

LETS GET REAL FOR A SECOND
So everyone wants a playoff system for NCAA football ? That means conference realignment is in order. 4 conferences of 16 a total of 64 division 1 schools. BUT what about the others?????? There is 118 d1 schools I think the NCAA is going to F up. Why? Syracuse AND Pit for instance are heading to the acc from the east and so are two others however here is the stink yeah football brings in $$$$$$ What about basketball ????? What about Georgetown ? and the other guys in the Big East Because they are not big in football everyone is forgetting them!!!!!!! What about Kansas in the big12???? You can't expect them to go independent. You don't have to love basketball to love march madness. IMO the NCAA is forgetting about who they are hurting. BB. The big east is huge basketball and due to football redoing conferences the history and best BB rivalries may be gone. It makes me sad because as a longhorn we are good at football , basketball and baseball and we have other big12 schools who are good in multiple sports as well but we may lose all of that for one sport. Don’t get me wrong im Football #1 but when Football is over I watch some basketball waiting for Football to start back up. Everyone wants to scream about the sec yeah they are awesome about football but a successful university isn't about one sport. “ The big12 is weak “ everyone says lol Ok UT , a&m , okie St and ou all good at FB , BB and Baseball. Dam near always in the bowl games each year , ALWAYS in final 64 bracket in march and of course Texas and a&m are always sitting pretty in Nebraska each summer for baseball championship IMO this is sad decades of history gone because the NCAA wants to push this championship. Surely there is a better way than to Screw over some of the biggest rivalries in other sports. |

As long as OUs big annual rivalry with Iowa St. stays intact. ![]() But I want OU and UT to stay annual. I dont live there and haven't for a long long time but when I did that stuff was huge. Generational importance. The Pac-? would be adding mid and top teams while the SEC can only add mid and lower teams. IMO this is HUGE for the Pac-? Quote:
But doesn't the NCAA allow for a school to be in one conference in one sport and another in a different? I could swear I heard that somewhere. Not sure though. |

Set-up like an NFL Conference would be nice to have a conference playoff as well but with no wildcard.
