80 grand?!?!? You see, this is why I don't understand why people want to be the first...(or second) to get something...

well, I guess if they can afford it...go for it. nice find.

but damn. It's getting closer...c'mon GM this is the final lap - you can do it. You don't need to win the race, but blow the pants off the competition when you do finish, just to make the fact that they won, meaningless!

^anybody follow the metaphor?

Hey, the race is only about to begin. And GM can still win, they just need to lap the field. Something tells me that the camaro can do it

That's another, and very good, take on it...but I was refering to the race out the door.

Camaro will lose that (probably), but it needs to completely embarass the competition when it does release. Which I am fully confident it will do.

have you ever seen bracket racing? one guy goes, then a bit later the other guy goes...and overtakes him.

mustang has been runnin for some time (getting winded), Challenger is about to take off, Camaro took a break and is allowing the competition to get ahead so that it is even more impressive when it finishes first

If you read further into the auction you'll see two key pieces of information:

1) 100% of the proceeds of this auction will go to Charity. This almost always causes things to be sold for more than they otherwise would go for.

2) This auction is only open to Dodge Dealers. No one else can bid on this vehicle.

Also, they are not only bidding on the car, it's a whole package.

Quote:
The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 No. 2* to roll off the assembly line
Two VIP Passes to the May 2008 Dodge Challenger 500 NASCAR race at Darlington Raceway, South Carolina.
Meet and Greet with Kyle Petty at the Dodge Challenger 500, in Darlington, May 2008.
Roundtrip first-class airfare and first-class lodging.
Winner will also receive a Dodge Motorsports prize pack with vehicle delivery.
All that being said, $85,000 is still way too much for that car.

Its actual.. that is a real company that created the account strictly for that sale.. that and dodge has publicly released that the first 3 off the line will be srt8s and will go directly to auction for a charity.

No offense to anyone, but personally I cant stand dodge. The only dodge I ever owned that was worth a $hit was an omni. That thing was indestructible. And the whole thing with the "hemi" cracks me up. How many cars have that type of combustion chamber these days??

"eBayers" are morons. I remember the release of the PS3. I saw someone pay upwards of 8500 for one. Just because its on eBay doesn't mean its worth it.

...no but they still buy it. It's not the seller's fault.
And besides, this is a charity auction being purchased by dealers...to whom 80k is mere pocket change, probably.

You know I've heard that a lot about dodge...but I've got a '95 grand caravan...and after all the crap I've put it through. It still runs with the ricers out there, I can out-accelerate the newer vans, and I can take turns with no problem at virtually suicidal speeds in a minivan. 80k miles, And I love it. I'll be sad to see it go, but I'll get over it while I'm driving around in my Camaro.

Oh, and HEMI...yeah - it's a joke to me. I don't think that that particular design (pronounced hemisphere shaped heads, as I understand it) is used by anybody else though...I'm 90% sure the LS's don't.

I had a 1980 dodge aspen rt when I was younger. 318 V-8. damn thing looked almost like a fastback mustang from the rear with the big ol square front end. i roasted the crap outta the tires in that thing. even tho it was my DD while I was fixin up the 78. then I blew the 318 and dropped a slant 6 in it. still had good gas mileage

I try to make every purchase I can off of ebay. I NEVER pay anything over the lowest price I can find in a store around town. I don't buy in state either due to tax. But, let's take the flashlight battery I just bought for example. It was $20 in store. I found it on ebay for $11 plus $4 for shipping. Now, do this all the time and that money saved adds up.

Now...the people who pay $8,500 for a PS3???.....IMO, that's rediculous.
