IRS = broken axles which is a big turn off.
When my dad ran in the 70s against Corvettes with his Chevelle in NHRA Super stock they had to run the stock IRS. NHRA let them convert to a solid rear axle for safety reasons they all picked up a 1-2 tenths over him. Wonder what it would be worth on a stock car???

I personally prefer the SRA over the IRS. But I prefer drag racing, and am willing to sacrifice a little ride comfort for performance at the strip.

A damn good deal in my opinion. Yea it would have been bare bones inside, but ANY car making 400+ HP for under 30 grand is a hll of a deal to me.. Only reason I upgraded was because my wife insisted on ambient lighting and Sync. Just went ahead and got a premium pack for 33K.. Still a great buy I think.
I think Ford made a real good call by pricing the new 5.0 under 30k.

IMO that is why the Mustang eeked out the Camaro in sales this month.

30K is a big obstacle for buyers.

This thread, even though it has almost taken a couple of bad turns, is really cool. These are conversations that haven't happened since before we even had the internet. I think of the years that the Camaro wasn't in production as kind of "the dead/lame era". I got my license in 89 and the things discussed on this and other threads are what made Saturday night car meets so much damn fun. It's really awesome to see these two cars duke it out again. Hell Dodge even decided to throw something substantially better into the arena, not a LeBaron or 3000GT clone (see Dodge Stealth).....

I'm not gonna buy that. Most of the reviews knock the mustang in ride quality.

Perfomance nod goes to the 5.0 but ride quality is sacrificed.

But I agree, for most of us that is not a real big deal. we knowingly choose performance over comfort.

Chevy seems to be trying to bring in a bigger market by going with a little more comfortable car.... We'll see if it works or not, now that the two cars are so close in performance.

The only Mustang that matters to me is the one next to me when the light turns green...!

Overall, this thread is surprisingly respectful from both sides despite strong opinions being expressed. Good job guys.

Doesn't mean the mustang is crap, nor does it mean we can't appreciate the competition stepping up their game.

So feel free to continue the discussion, no need for insults and NOOOO POLITICS.

oh and coco puffs FTW!

My daughter says so.
Didn't mean to sound political.. Basically, I feel like we all share a common interest in these cars, while doing so, we do have a few mustang, and challenger owners amongst us. I myself plan to eventually pick up a used srt8 challenger as I have test driven one and liked it alot. I personally think the redesigned mustang exterior is ugly, where they hit the nail on the head with the previous models, but they're interior sucked. The camaro is a whole new fresh design. All 3 have they're flaws, but all 3 are home grown american muscle cars all deserving of respect just for existing and offering us, the public options which we can choose from based upon what we can afford and what we like. My only thought is that we should be able to speek freely without getting bashed..

P.S. Tony the tiger rocks!! frosted flakes all the way!

I'm an old drag racer ,and the solid axles are no doubt better for that. But really, that's where it ends. I would much rather have the independent for on the street. How many people buy camaros live at the drags? A lot less than use them on the highway and want all the modern comforts. GM did the right thing here.

Disagree. Skidpad #'s don't equate to street performance or ride quality. The SRA doesn't handle bumps well, or comfortably. The IRS in the Camaro does.

It's still SRA for the quarter mile, IRS for everything else.
