Well okay, so a mile might be over stating it. But someone saying 'it's so close it's not even funny' is ALSO a personal opinion.

Also please understand that the bias I have today is based on research and test drives. I was a BMW driver. I was considering buying a 370Z, because I wanted something sporty. Out of the blue I decided to check out the American cars, with no personal bias whatsoever. I read the reviews, I test drove the V6 & V8 of each, and decided what I preferred.

Yeah, but that's kinda like when Porsche tell me they have redesigned the 911, and it looks the same. Honestly, at least to my eyes, the overall look of the Mustang is so similar to how it has looked for several years, it's hardly changed. Hence my comment about same old.

If you took a person who didn't know much about cars, and showed them a new Mustang. They could probably tell you it was a Mustang, despite the redesign. If you asked the same person to identify the new Camaro, they are far more likely to be stumped, since the new design is a total re-imagining of the vehicle.

As to how many Mustangs there are, I was referring to them as a whole, not just the 2010/2011 models.

Some of my wife's relatives who are diehard Mustang fans and have owned several, actually whine about the redesign as a departure from the classic look. In fact some have said that Ford ruined it.

I can agree in some respects, but every time I see that pale green LED display Ford uses, I just think of one of those old crappy things like the Ford Explorer that everyone was trading in on the cash for clunkers program.

Seriously, that kind of color and display is so ugly.

But let's be real there are some issues that GM need to work on with the Camaro interior.

Some of the reviews I've read concede that Ford have done an amazing job, despite the live axle. But many also state that desite the impressive nimble feel, it can still take a little longer to settle down on an uneven road surface.

I guess I stand corrected. I still was not impressed by the interior particularly.

I did. As someone who's been in sales for years, it also annoyed me that he told me he had never even looked at a Camaro up close. I mean why not take some time out and learn a little something about the competition.

I remember one time when I bought an Acura TL, and was considering trading it for the Type S. I went to a Lexus dealer and asked the salesman to explain why I should buy an IS rather than the TL. In an arrogant I-work-at-a-Lexus-Dealership voice he said, "Sir, I don't really consider Acura to be in the same class as a Lexus. We only learn how to sell against BMW."

Now sure, I really don't like Acura all that much, but don't tell me a car for the exact same price isn't your competition!

At the end of the day, I know some emotions run high on the whole Pony Car thing. For me I did the comparisons and just didn't like the Mustang. And if you compare like with like: 2010 to 2010, I think there is a big difference. The fact that Ford were forced to put in better engines to compete shows they are playing catch up, and given the extra years they've been working on the Mustang, they shouldn't have to.

I happen to agree with him. The Mustang's numbers are better. It's hard to argue that. But you can't quantify "cool." And the Camaro is exactly that. Cool.

Some folks like Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers, and even Chargers. But the honest to God truth is they are all cool cars. And we would all be lucky to drive any one of them. PC? Yes. Truthful. I think so, too.
Yeah, not only cool, it TooCool

well they both look cool... we both agree that the camaro as a more appeal to it...

now we see the mustang as a sports/ muscle car...

we both agreed that the camaro is more of a muscle car, and more BA...

the interior of the mustang feels like a normal sports car, i love the 6 speed shift knob..

now the camaro, for sure as a more BA interior, but with all of that visible issue, its makes it not good for the track,,, but that camaro is not a track car anyways so its fine...

looking at the numbers the mustang is a better deal.. but the camaro is just a "cooler" car
This has to be the first truly unbiased report on here that I've seen. Good Job!

Regarding the gearing, the quickest/fastest stock Mustang GT is an auto running the 3.15 gear on the base 18" wheels and tires.

Even with the stock 3.31 in the manual, it is more aggressively geared than the Camaro. The 3.73 just = wheelspin.
Agreed. The Brembos in the SS are great for the road course, but just stop for stop in daily driving, not that much of an advantage. Of course, they look good peeking through the wheels, lol.

Moved.

Couple things. We obviously don't have a ban on Mustang discussion...

but this is a camaro site. So don't get all huffy when we appear to be a bit biased. We are biased.

Doesn't mean the mustang is crap, nor does it mean we can't appreciate the competition stepping up their game.

So feel free to continue the discussion, no need for insults and NOOOO POLITICS.

oh and coco puffs FTW!

My daughter says so.

God no. There is no reason for Ford to move to IRS. The solid axle performs just as well and has a higher skidpad than the Camaro.

IRS = broken axles which is a big turn off.

2011 mustang is a good looking car for sure. I have a totally different view on stangs now when I see the new ones rolling down the road.

Especially the brand new GT500 that was rollin with me for a while the other day!

Wanna be able to stop? Gotta order the Brembos. A base GT is $30,495 a 1SS is $31,795. The GT's brembo option is $1695 which raises it's price to $32,190. On top of that if you want to swap out the standard 3.31's with the 3.55's or more likely the 3.73's it's another $395. Which brings it up to $32,585. Even then the Camaro and Mustang are neck and neck in the 1/4 mile. So if your talking getting into a V8 then sure you can get a stang cheaper but as for more bang for you buck the Camaro wins.
FYI you do NOT have to add ANYTHING to the 11 GT to perform with an SS, the stock brakes match or beat the SS 60-0, a 3.31 equipped GT has already tied the BEST Camaro SS time at 12.58, so yes, bang for your buck, the Mustang IS the better deal.

I was going to post this as well, but just didn't want to create a big argument. I had my dealer quote me on a base GT with 3:73s as my only option and I could of got it for around 29,700.. A damn good deal in my opinion. Yea it would have been bare bones inside, but ANY car making 400+ HP for under 30 grand is a hll of a deal to me.. Only reason I upgraded was because my wife insisted on ambient lighting and Sync. Just went ahead and got a premium pack for 33K.. Still a great buy I think.

Why? The Mustang rides as well as the Camaro and outhandles it no problem, it is more stout and better for the 1/4 mile also, so what makes the IRS superior in htis case? IMHO, give me what works and the Ford solid axle just works better than the Camaro IRS stock for stock.

Love my Camaro
I Said it before, so, I think Ford did a great job on the '11 Mustangs! Love the GT500's! Still wouldn't buy one, but it's a great car - have always loved the GT's stock sound!

All of the above are my opinions. You can leave them, but ya can't change em
Ok, give me a GT500 and I'll give you a better opinion!
