No...but Ive been recovering from a stroke, and working 12 hr shifts, so I apologize if I dont live behind a TV. Im pretty sure all the regulars know my opinion of the camaro...Ill be driving one, thats for damn sure. But at the same time Ive been waiting for this car since before I was old enough to drink! thats a damn long time to keep up the hype. Im pretty sure thats a marketing company's nightmare....we've got this totally badass car that will out perform all the competition,...but it wont come out for 4-5 years. Im a die hard camaro fan, but I also know that GM has to do this right!

According to Fbodfather this version of the Camaro is coming out sooner then the original '67. I personal appreciate that they took the time to research everything and work out all the kinks. in '05 the new style Mustang got terrible reviews by Consumer Reports because Ford didn't take the time in the R&D dept.

Not to dare and question anything Fbodfather has said, but I seriously doubt the Gen 5 Camaro has taken less time from concept to production than the Gen 1, but I guess it could be possible. I mean, after Ford introduced the Mustang in 1964, as a '65 model year, and it went on to set car sales records, it only took GM about two years (1966) from start to finish to get the Camaro on showroom floors.

Now, if I recall correctly, GM introduced the Gen 5 Camaro as a concept in 2006 at the Detroit Auto Expo and it won't hit the showrooms until 2009. That's 3 years. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how you can say it's not taken longer than it should have to get this thing to market.

Look, I love what I see with the new Camaro and based on my own personal experience with my last Holden-based GM vehicle (2006 GTO), I look forward to getting a SS in the not-too-distant future. The fact still remains that by introducing the car now versus a year ago, GM misssed an opportunity to sell a lot more of these cars. Sure, all the die-hard Camaro guys will still get one, and so will a lot of other people, but with gas prices and the economy the way they are today versus where they were 1-2 years ago, less people will be in the market for this car, no matter how nice it will be.

I think the time they are talking about is from the time of project approval to start of production. The concept is just a concept, and the date it was shown does not necessarily mean they started work on a production vehicle right then.

Okay. Let's say they did not greenlight the Camaro for production until 2007; that's still 2 years plus to bring the car to showrooms.

Here's the timeline, as I understand it, for the Gen 1. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

April 1965-Rumors of a GM competitor being built is rumored.
June 28, 1966-The Camaro is offically announced as a go for production.
September 12, 1966-Camaro is shown at various auto shows
September 29, 1966-Camaro hits showrooms and is for sale to the general public.

By your definition, that's 90 days from greenlight to showrooms. Even if you go back to the date of the rumors (which were no dount true) that's only 17 months.

For supposedly liking Camaro, you have little good things to say about it; always jabs here and there. Perhaps this will remind you of the commmunity you are in:

For those that thing pushrod motors are primitive, I submit OEM LS7, 6.1L HEMIs, V10 Viper, LS3, and those are all NA. The supposed advanced OEM DOHC engines need power adders to compete with these. And if someone felt like arguing artificial aspiration, I submit LS9 and LSA against any OEM American iron. Pushrods too. H3LL! The latest Viper V10 makes 600 horse! ... pushrod...

No, no jabs at the car, just just occassional nods toward some of the people who are so far up GM's ass that all I can see are their shoestrings. Those are the same people who get all butt-hurt when anyone says something they feel is even remotely negative about a GM offering. See, I've owned, or still own, cars from each of the big 3, so I tend to speak from a very non-partisan standpoint.

I have no love affair with the modular Ford engines, either, but the comment was about technology not power output. Even then, most of the difference has more to do with c.i.d. than it does with anything else. I guess GM had to supercharge the ZR1 just to keep up with the new Viper, right?

Ive seen plenty of LS2 vettes with 600hp and torque NA...the viper has 2 extra cylinders doing the same. They went to a blown engine so they can use the same superb tech and offer a great V8 in multiple vehicles, and still keep the cost reasonable.

I doubt it, Lets not forget that the G8 Gt stops from 60 in about 109-112ft, see that the camaro is lighter, i think the mustang is toast in the brakeing dept. I can't wait to see the comparison test in a couple of months, bragging right are on the line.
Just like engines, people often put too much stock in how many pistons are doing the pumping. And just like with engines, there is more to it than that.
