Smaller companies don't really have an orientation per se' but just do a drug test and road test and put you on.

If you DON'T miss any days and the truck stays running and you encounter little problems then you'll be at his figures. I would plan on around 28 to 30k for a year. And that's busting your ass. I'd take it right now. Remember, for the first year, you NEED them. After that, THEY NEED YOU. Just get that first year under your belt and then find a better place.

I'm only speculating based on what he told you and my own experience. It's been about 3 years now since I did it. I hope it's all drop-hook and loading times are minimal and you get the miles in a solid running rig. If so it sounds fine but even if it's a nightmare, stick it out the first year and then you can go out on any given day and come home with 10 job offers. Kinda gotta take what you can find right now.
Yea... thats what I was thinking... I told them if I was hired there I would like to stay where I start... I dont want to be jumpin around ... as long as they treat me right I will probably stay. I know i will get the truck they are getting ready to get rid of but I wouldn't give a newbie a good truck with the chance of it being messed up.. I know the first year is goingto be rough.....just hope i can make the best of it

Just remember what I said, the more you drive it, the 'smaller' it gets. After a week on your own, you'll actually enjoy it. It's kinda cool for a while out on the open road just driving. Some like it even after years. I grew to LOATH it. Local jobs are usually shity ones. They know you want to stay home so they don't pay worth a damn. I have literally worked 15 hr. days and made 60 dollars. No BS. You don't get paid for loading and unloading times. There lies the problem. And breakdowns.

I'm gonna have nightmares tonight now.

I only say that because I'm guessing pay is more up there. Down here it was 350.00 per week while training.

You'll love it at first. You may love it at second and third. Personally I hope you enjoy the hell out of it. I have freinds who swear they miss it. I now own a business, my other buddy is a State Trooper, another works on commercial security systems. They swear they miss the trucking. NOT ME.
