School does that to me.

A bad GM sales report does that to me too.

By the way, the thing to keep in mind with that sales report: GM sold a ton of cars in September 2008. That's why it looks bad...but most people don't see that.

Hopefully tomorrow. You don't want to go the whole weekend worrying about it.

Will you have to ride with a trainer when you get hired?

Are you in orientation now? If so, you got the job. Only way to NOT would be a failed drug test.

No not in orientation... just road up to the company on tuesday I think it was and they gave me an app and I filled it out talked to the guy a bit gave him the papers that I did have like my driving record and drug test results and the long formfor the DOT physical... like i said its a small company compared to the others out there but I thinkthey have about 20-30 trucks or so.... He wanted to take me out for the road test right then but he was also fillin in for the dispatcher that was out sick. which is when he said to call him friday morn to see if we could do it then or have to wait tilmonday.... Also asked what i was looking for... I told him i really didn't know other than a job... asked if i wouldbe interested in regional I said yes.. i needed a job... lol... then asked what kind of money i thought i should make... i told him i really didn't know that either and all that i knew was what the guy over the school told us which was .32 a mile...he said that was probably a bit optimistic right now for someone starting out. I told him i really didn't know what to expect... but if it sounded good enough to me and someone gave me a chance i would probably take it.. then he said if i didn't make enough money i wouldn't be happy... asked how much i would have to have the first year and be happy with my job.. again i said i really have no idea but just for a number 30,000 ... he said ok... well.... what im going to offer is .35 a mile loaded and .25 empty... you should get about 120,000 miles a year and if you average it out at 50/50 that would make it 36,000 for your first year..... said that I would be out 4-5 days and home 2... and there is a door plant less than a mile away from me that they are supposed to get the contract to haul the doors and I would be able to come home and take my 10-12hour break and leave from home. said that would be good for me and them.... I forgot to even ask about the benefits but my instructor told me that they had really good benefits what do you think sound good? not so good? or too good to be true?

Home often usually means not good money. Sounds like a lot of dedicated running whitch is good. But remember. 120,000 miles would be over 450 miles per day, which is about 10 hrs. NOT counting loading and unloading. Sounds like the loads will be drop-hook to start but forklift to unload. You're looking at 14-15 hr. days. If you DON'T miss any days and the truck stays running and you encounter little problems then you'll be at his figures. I would plan on around 28 to 30k for a year. And that's busting your ass. I'd take it right now. Remember, for the first year, you NEED them. After that, THEY NEED YOU. Just get that first year under your belt and then find a better place.

I'm only speculating based on what he told you and my own experience. It's been about 3 years now since I did it. I hope it's all drop-hook and loading times are minimal and you get the miles in a solid running rig. If so it sounds fine but even if it's a nightmare, stick it out the first year and then you can go out on any given day and come home with 10 job offers. Kinda gotta take what you can find right now.

Sounds about right. For those first few weeks, you'll probably only make about 500 per.
