I've used a Leupold 1.5-5X 1" tube in La Rue SPR1.5, quick release mounts, on several AR's. Ran the same scope on my .375 H&H and a .416 Rigby on three trips to South Africa. Despite the travel, use and abuse....still holds a zero and adjusts in a repeatable, linear manner. Tough to beat Leupold variables.

Have a 3 power ACOG on my LWRC 5.56 AR. Another uber tough setup. Not a ton of magnification but just right for close and LR. The stadia wires are set up out to 600 yds . And they are amazingly close to the mark with most ammo you'd shoot from the gun. Luckily 68/69 gr Match bullets align perfectly with the stadia.

Theres' always the Red Dot. I have used a few different models of Aimpoints for years.

WHAT exactly do You wish to do with this rifle?

This rifle is a 0-350 yard cqb for me. My ar's are set up for 0-200 yard guns with red dots. I like bdc but plan on reloading and feel that the VMR-2 RETICLE (MOA) of the PST gen 2 is best suited for this style. I was looking at Trijicon alot because I prefer 100% american made. Although the reviews of the new Vortex viper PST gen 2 in 1-6 quick throw magnification called for me and I bit the bullet and bought it. This is supposed to match the quality of the Vortex Razor HD 1-6 that alot of 3 gun competitors are using our to 500-600 yards for quick competitions. I would think 3 gun and CQB is similar roles for a scope as 3 gun is like running through a tactical course. I have been researching all weekend. haha This will be my first vortex. Id did get a chance to look at a friend of mines vortex strike eagle in 1-4x24 over the weekend. The only bad thing is the mag ring is super stiff. Then I found out you can use the quick levers anyways.

I did look into Leupold as that has always been a good scope but in this style I am looking at, I do not think they have kept up in the market.

I think You have it covered. The Vortex you bought is as good as it gets for what You wish to do. I used the 1.5-5X Leupold for a few years in some limited 3 gun shooting and it worked fine. Yours with a larger tube, more modern optics, etc, etc. Should be even better.

I had an old Colt Sporter in 7.62 x 39 for about thirty years. A ton of new hunters borrowed that gun with a 5 rd mag and Federal red/white box 123 gr softpoints, for their first deer. IMHO the AK47 round seems to work the same as a .30-30 Win. Lighter bullet for sure but surely seems to kill a deer the same.

MAGAZINES were my issue for about 20 years. Until C Products came out with theirs. Now with their new mags You are set. Shouldn't have any issues.

I'm a big fan of the ACOG's but not a fan of their prices. Had I not fell into a screaming deal on mine...I probably wouldn't have one. I can rationalize $2K+ scopes for my LR rifles, but for an AR....I can't.

Keep us updated on how this works for You. Good Luck.

Several years back I handled an FBI Thompson that had been used, during the Prohibition era, by their Chicago Agents. The original Agent who signed when it was initially issued; E Ness. Some history there. LOL.

It's insane WHERE the prices are now on Class 3's. I had an old GI M-1 Thompson for several years. Sold it in 1992 to buy a 12 acre piece of land bordering our Ranch. ONLY point of access around our place I didn't control. So vital for me to own it, or say goodbye to my home Range. Hated to sell it, but it was a good sacrifice.

Would love ANY of those for sale!

Thank you for the information and help Frank. The Acog is and was a great scope for what it is meant for. It definitely gets the cool factor for looks. Did you like the 1.5-5X leupold better when you did 3 gun and why?

I simply used that 1.5-5X as it was the lowest variable I had. I felt the 2.5-8X was great at 8X but too much power at 2.5 power for the close stuff.

It was simply how it shook out, not the result of any real investigation into what would be optimum. Later I did use the LWRC and the ACOG for a few shoots. Always hated tossing the gun into those blue plastic barrels when you transitioned away from the AR. LOL. Love that LWRC and always try to take care of my toys. So tossing it into the barrel wasn't for me.

I ended up doing a parts AR and ran a red dot. Easier for me to abuse that one versus the LWRC or one of the Daniels. Sorry for the long reply.

I have the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24 on my AR and a Vortex Venom 6MOA on my Browning BuckMark. Both are very good pieces.

The Razor UH-1 is made in the USA based on this thread. I have had one on order since November.

It's made in the USA with a U.K. made reticle/hologram.

The Vortex warranty can't be beat. No receipt necessary and no questions asked and they don't care if you are the original owner or not.
Did you get any more information if your optic was shipped?

Thank you for the long reply. Kind of what I was looking for. I have not done 3 gun but I am very competitive and taking my hobby may or may not go this direction. Hate to ruin something and become too competitive knowing it is just a hobby for me. I can easily get carried away. haha I would also have to build a parts gun just to do this. I would not use my prize SHTF builds. Sounds crazy but how it is. Build a really high end rifle to run forever and then not want to use it to shoot thousands of rounds. haha

No, they haven't started shipping yet and the thread about it has been stagnant for a few days. Still in a holding pattern.

Then again...Couldn't be a BETTER time to BUY AR parts...the market is VERY SOFT. Built a beater for 3 gun!

I am not a competitive person...only person I'm trying to best is ME.

I shot 3 gun and IPSC years back when I was still working for the State, mostly to hone my skills as well as to get ideas for qualification courses, and to evaluate how well my duty gear worked. I like 3 gun far more than the handgun games. A few of the "rules" for the games were very counter to what we did on the cop job. Like retaining mags...it's empty...what use is it? So I shot a few of the games and took their rules with a grain of salt.

Still shoot some Steel Challenge. IMHO hand gunning in it's purest form. No extensive/expensive hardware required. All about speed and accuracy.

Good Luck with 3 gun it IS both FUN and if You are competitive...ADDICTING. Have your 10 shot shotgun yet? LOL.

As I mentioned I purchased a Vortex PST gen2 1-6 and it is on backorder supposedly until 7/1 too. Either Vortex is selling out quickly or not keeping up. Hopefully your sight comes in quickly. I would really like to see a BDC reticle in that sight. Would fit my Ar build I was going to fit an eotech too for short range 0-200 yards.
