The ZL1 platform is far superior, you won't have to start spending money on mods, as Chevrolet did them all for you, upfront in this model. Plus this is about as good as it gets for future mods go , as far as a platform goes. I've had mine 3 years and have only spent money on 3 oil and filter changes.

Go for the ZL1!! They're amazing cars to begin with and then with any kind of mods, they're even more incredible. If you're wanting serious power then start with serious power. As for the DD option, the ZL1 will get less gas mileage than a SS so fuel cost will be higher. However, it is amazing what the magnetic ride does for ride quality. That is truly one thing I wish I could have on my SS. I'm probably going to upgrade to the LSA supercharger anyway, but magnetic ride is one thing that I would upgrade the car to.

I drove both. Zl1 is what I bought for good reason lol. It is that much nicer. If you plan to DD get different tires. The bfgoodrige or continentals are what most people dd. Plus having the supporting structure for some insane power adders. I absolutely love my zl1, would have to be for another incredible car before I would consider getting rid of it.

You will not go wrong with the ZL1...I tested both and hands down there was no comparison...The Zl1 was so much more powerful that it made the other feel like "Driving Ms. Daisy"...It also gives you a better platform to build on if you desire an increase in performance down the road...Mine is used as a daily driver and when I needed new tires I went with the BFG's Comp 2 A/S, they handle better, have a good ride, are quiet, and have a life of 45,000 miles, although I doubt the rears will last that length of time on mine...Do it once, do it right...Good luck with your choice...

In my tribe, a new ZL1 was $15000 over a 1LE, approx 200 lb heavier, plus heavier up front, and FI vs NA. That all said, $ for $ being equal, ZL1, is a no-brainer . It's a stout factory build. $9000 diff is a smaller gap..but still a gap..your call dude. Set you goals, don't fool yourself, and keep it real. Test drive both, or go home. |

Get the car that you like the best. That's the best advice I would give you.

As a daily driver? The ZL1 is THE one to get. It has all of the creature comforts of a DD (Magnetic ride with variable settings, for example), with all of the power you could ever want. The 1LE is truly a track focused car, it's pretty much 90% of a Z/28 with less power. It can certainly serve as a DD, however it rides pretty darn rough. Also, the cup holders are rendered useless when you drive a manual, FYI.
I would go with the ZL1, you'll love either one you get though. You just don't want that buyers remorse. |
