I'll get something else later on if I go 9mm. I don't have time to get my CCW right now. Would I be better off getting a .40 or .45?

I must be old too or even older because I like wheel guns. These new plastic guns cannot be denied. They do their job and do it well. Still though, to have my Colt Anaconda in 44 mag would be sweet. I miss that gun the most.

With today's ammunition choices, there's no reason to feel you would be making a compromise by choosing 9mm if you had a 9mm pistol instead of a larger caliber.

Kind of what I was thinking. Less knock down power, but more rounds.

Wheel guns will always be awesome! And no FTF FTE problems
![]() 9mm is a great round, and cheap. I wouldn't worry too much about the caliber (within reason) of my first pistol, if you don't shoot much, any caliber is good, and the cost isn't drastic when you're only shooting 50 rds a month or less. If you end up shooting a lot, you'll know pretty quick what your next pistol should be.

Yeah... I started out w/ a S&W Model 66 years ago... blew thru 38's plinking at friends ranches.
Then got serious and moved up... now, like cars, much improved taste. Although, I do miss that wheel gun.

Knockdown power...
Impact power of a .45 vs a 9mm is very roughly 2x all other things being equal, or so I read. But for "knockdown" the term implies that the force of the bullet will take a man off his feet by virtue of the impact, and some rounds or calibers are better at it than others. Respectfully no. The energy carried by the bullet is not doing that. The pain and shock and trauma may cause a human to fall down but they are not propelled backward by the force of the round.

True self defense home gun is a shotgun in my honest opinion. Fun to blow stuff up with and can shoot skeet or trap against friends. |

Still have a spot for a nice .44 mag in my safe. Colt Anaconda was nice. Honestly my favorite .44 mag to shoot is a Taurus with the barrel compensator. Smooth gun if it did not fall apart on you when you shot it. Smith and wesson did a custom .44mag with barrel compensator and might be my next purchase.
