Doesn't answer on call back. I go and am the first one there (guys love it when the Captain is out on the street working and I try to as much as possible - I hate being in the office). I walk up the steps of this row home which has been converted into 2 apartments like many in the city. Of course he is second floor, so I walk up this narrow stairway and the door is on a tiny landing with no cover. Great. It gets worse as I grab the railing and lean forward to hit the bottom of the door while staying on the steps and it breaks and I almost smack my face on the landing. I step up onto the landing, hit the door, and go back down a few steps so I'm level with maybe the bottom 1/3 of the door (always a good idea as most people, even knowing there are steps, still shoot chest high through the door). I hear the first officer walking up the steps. The door opens, the guy peeks out, and then closes and locks the door. Great, this is going to be a PITA. I step up again and the door opens again. I push on the door and he walks away and around the corner into a kitchen. I ask him what's going on, how are you feeling, the normal stuff on this kind of call. The other officer comes up behind me and the 3rd we hear comes running up the steps. This freaks out our new friend who proceeds to open a drawer and pull out a knife that has to be 10 inches long at least. I immediately draw my .40cal SIG P229 as does the 2nd officer who later I realize had he shot from right next to my head (these old row homes are narrow!) I'd probably be close to deaf in that ear for hours. I yell drop the knife like 3 or 4 times and he has that lost look in his eyes, then drops it in the drawer and backs up. He listens to my get on your knees commands and the 2nd guy handcuffs him. We take him to the hospital for a psych eval and he thanks us over and over for not shooting him or roughing him up. He wasn't a bad guy, he just stop taking his meds and starting drinking, which just puts you more off balance. Oh well, another Friday evening in the city.
Meds and alcohol just dont mix....mental health is at the forefront and im amazed at how many people suffer from it

people need to get off Their phone when driving and walking it makes me sick, if I hit someone that was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk while on their phone too bad you should have paid attention. Also stay off you phone when out for dinner, I see families all the time at dinner all of them on their phone and not talking, it's so sad. I rarely go out to dinner because I'm alone and it sucks, I would kill to have someone to talk too during a dinner out

+1 get yourself one or 2 for each car

I'm 39 and haven't even been in a fender bender in 19 years and never been in a personal injury accident, until last fall. Coming home from a friends house I drove through an intersection with a stoplight (which I pass through at least 2x a day) and while it was green I was T-boned in the drivers side by a car containing 3x 17 year old's. I was driving my wife's GMC Envoy and did 1 full roll over and landed on the wheels. No serious injuries but prolonged back pain with 2 herniated disks. I didn't have collision on the SUV and it's totaled.

Now here's the fun part, 17 year old female driver of the Nissan Sentra that hit me says I ran the red light. I have a 3rd party witness that says they (the sentra) ran the light and yet 9 months later I am still going through lawyers and have not seen a cent for replacement of my vehicle let alone any medical reimbursement.

I now have a dash cam in each vehicle, 2 of which have front and rear cameras. If I had had a camera in the Envoy recording the accident I wouldn't need a lawyer or their 33-40% cut of my reimbursement for losses.
a $100-200 investment in a little piece of technology would have saved me months of fighting with lawyers and insurance companies as well as THOUSANDS in lawyer commissions.

On a side note; 1) I won't EVER purchase any policy from state farm. Their company policy is to apparently deny any claim, draw out the process for as long as possible and hope you either go away or settle for pennies on the dollar. 2) Parents, please tech your children to do the right thing in a bad situation & take responsibility for their actions, like I hope your parents taught you. -Rant over.

YES; it's the best INSURANCE you'll ever have.. No more he said she said. As I said above, this needs to be purchased BEFORE a cold air intake, exhaust mods etc. Just reread above; it would have been open and shut...
