Almost Killed Somebody Today

Closest I've ever come.. Driving my Hummer today at 35 +/- and a bicycle is ahead of me in the bike lane. Two lane street... All of a sudden this jerk cuts in front of me to make a left turn in front of me to go down an alley across the street. He had no idea I was there and he didn't even look. Hit the horn and slammed on the brakes: missed him by 5 feet and he kept going and waved. The Hummer H2 is 6000 lbs.

I am posting this for a reason... I have a video cam in all my cars including my wife's 2SS Vert. I tried to download the video for you but gave up. My point... You all need to get one ( any brand) for your Camaro. The video INCLUDES GPS which clearly shows your speed. If you have an accident in your Camaro they are going to say you were doing 90 miles an hour. If I had hit this jerk, the video would have saved my bacon.

Mine is great.. BULLS-EYE but they don't make it anymore . They are all high def now and are great. Mine also picks up any movement in front when parked and is great for catching vandals when parked.

PLEASE buy yourself one of these instead of a cut back... By the exhaust with the NEXT paycheck.

Just trying to give you a heads up. I've been preaching these things for over a year and now have a friend who just bought one AFTER he had an accident. The camera would have proved it was the other driver.

I was thinking of this yesterday. I was going through a town center at about 4 pm. Two lanes each way. The other side of the road was packed solid with traffic. My side is flowing at about 25 mph.

As I approach a crosswalk that has traffic lights, and on the other side of the road, cars in traffic parked on the crosswalk, a pedestrian sprints from between those cars, right in front of me. My light is green. I was doing 25 mph and the Camaro's brakes are good. The pedestrian light read 'DONT WALK'. He was a college kid with a his eyes on his cellphone. Coulda been DRT (dead right there).

I really can't give you a suggested brand as I love mine but they don't make it anymore. I will post again later with a picture of two of my units. My ONLY suggestion: I purposely stayed away from the units that have their own screen as I was looking for "small".. It mounts in back of the rearview mirror and is hard wired. Most of them come with a plug in but that looks terrible. This is a permanent part of the car and you just take the micro card out to view it. The clarity is fantastic and most of them have their own software viewer. As I said above, this records your speed and GPS coordinates as you drive.
My mechanic bought one from Costco and likes it very much.. It's not there anymore but cost less than $100.. It had a screen but it was fairly small anyway and he covered the screen and doesn't use it.

The main idea is SMALL. More later... In case of an accident THIS is the best witness you will ever have. Google Bulls-I as I think they still have the demo up. The demo will sell you on this; I PROMISE

I almost killed someone last night, but it wasn't with the car. He made the right decision after realizing he wasn't going to win the impending gun fight armed with a knife.

He did thank me afterwards at the hospital.

Cameras are a good idea. I like the Mustang video that was posted where they roll back into the car with the camera. Hard to prove without the footage.

Wow people dont just care anymore. I love it when someone crosses a road on foot without even looking. They just walk out in front of you!

Ok; I'm back.. I have these cameras in each car. In the Hummer, I have front and back.. I am attaching a pic of two of the units. Remember, SMALL is what is mandatory for me.. The smaller unit does not have the GPS internally and there is another VERY small separate GPS that plugs into the unit. Costco online has "black vue" DR650gw at $399.. The head guy from Bulls-I is now at Blackview and I think they are basically the same unit. My mechanic friend has a Cobra unit which was less than $100 at Costco. I'll get that model # from him tomorrow.

One more time... "SIZE MATTERS"

Sorry; back again. I wanted you to see the clarity and the info on a "capture" of the video.. It shows the speed, GPS coordinates, the time and date and the "attitude" of the car. I'm not good at describing "yaw" but it has all that. The actual playback software is fantastic with the moving picture and moving "instruments" for speed and yaw and more. Most of these units have this stuff.

It was one of those calls you just know isn't going to go well. I heard them dispatch 2 cars (2 officers - we rarely double cars) to a "mental patient" (bad sign already) call. Guy calls 9-1-1 and tells the dispatcher he is off his meds, is going to do something "stupid" (yes, exact quote) and then begins to become belligerent and tells her "F you, F everyone" and then hangs up. Doesn't answer on call back. I go and am the first one there (guys love it when the Captain is out on the street working and I try to as much as possible - I hate being in the office). I walk up the steps of this row home which has been converted into 2 apartments like many in the city. Of course he is second floor, so I walk up this narrow stairway and the door is on a tiny landing with no cover. Great. It gets worse as I grab the railing and lean forward to hit the bottom of the door while staying on the steps and it breaks and I almost smack my face on the landing. I step up onto the landing, hit the door, and go back down a few steps so I'm level with maybe the bottom 1/3 of the door (always a good idea as most people, even knowing there are steps, still shoot chest high through the door). I hear the first officer walking up the steps. The door opens, the guy peeks out, and then closes and locks the door. Great, this is going to be a PITA. I step up again and the door opens again. I push on the door and he walks away and around the corner into a kitchen. I ask him what's going on, how are you feeling, the normal stuff on this kind of call. The other officer comes up behind me and the 3rd we hear comes running up the steps. This freaks out our new friend who proceeds to open a drawer and pull out a knife that has to be 10 inches long at least. I immediately draw my .40cal SIG P229 as does the 2nd officer who later I realize had he shot from right next to my head (these old row homes are narrow!) I'd probably be close to deaf in that ear for hours. I yell drop the knife like 3 or 4 times and he has that lost look in his eyes, then drops it in the drawer and backs up. He listens to my get on your knees commands and the 2nd guy handcuffs him. We take him to the hospital for a psych eval and he thanks us over and over for not shooting him or roughing him up. He wasn't a bad guy, he just stop taking his meds and starting drinking, which just puts you more off balance. Oh well, another Friday evening in the city.
