He took the Top Spot at the USA Powerlifting High School Championships.
I'll see if I can find a pic of his lifting coach. She's huge!
My question would be if he is interested in strength training, why on earth would they hire a bodybuilder as a "lifting" coach?

What's his BW?

As far as calories go, I avg 1400 to 1900 depending on if my wife frys whatever we have for dinner. She counts them too. We eat a lot of ground turkey and chicken, made various ways. We did have beef fajitas last night and I grill some ribeyes maybe once a month depending on what is on sale. We always try to have some type of vegitable with our meal. I have been cutting back on what I eat. I actually strarted eating 3/4 of what I would normally eat and now I am down to about 1/2 of what I would normally eat. 2 of my biggest problems are that I may only eat 1 or 2 times a day and I can't sleep for crap. I understand people are working. I don't expect answers automatically. Honestly, I don't expect any answers period. I am just thankful that people are taking the time to help me try to get where I want to be.
Your approximate BF% is similar to your BMI at about 26% (+or- a couple %). You have approximately 48 pounds of fat on your body. You can't lose all of it, because then you would be 0% body fat Your lean mass is 185-48 for 136 lbs. Again, that would put you at 0% body fat.

If your goal over three months is to lose 15 pounds, which is very easily attainable, that will bring you down to about 18%. 20 pounds would bring you to around 15%.

This is, of course, assuming absolutely no loss of muscle, and that you are not currently over or under hydrated. And again, I can't stress this enough, these are close but approximate figures.

As for your diet, go with CFD's information. Eating twice a day is not really that great, but mostly because people who eat less often throughout the day tend to overeat when they do. Also, I would recommend starting at about 1800 calories a day for a couple weeks (you don't even need to exercise) and see what happens. Your body needs a little bit to adjust to a new diet. You can adjust as needed after your weight loss "settles out". You'll lose little to nothing at first (or at least I do), and then you might lose a whole bunch all at once. Weight yourself first thing in the morning, on the same day, ONCE per week. Before eating, before fluids, before anything else. Do it in your birthday suit right before you hop in the shower for example. This will keep some of the variables out of your tracking.

Stay away from your fried foods. Stay away from fast food if possible. There are healthy options at certain fast food places. Learn what they are. Obviously they are not as healthy (generally) as home cooked meals, but there are acceptible foods. Nutrional information is available for almost every food place. Start a log, or spreadsheet, or something, and track what you're putting into your body. I promise, it will open your eyes

I know sometimes the vein thing has to do with the amount of oxygen or nitric oxide or something like that due to certain supplements. I have nothing against people like that, it is just not for me and my wife would not like it either.
LOL no offense taken. I just stated that because in the "internet world of everyone stating their body fat %'s" most are inaccurate. 10%, a true 10%, is a really lean person. 15% is much more attainable.

I'll tell you the same thing I tell everyone that wants to lose weight....and it can really be no harder than this....

1. Learn how to eat, know what to consume, and eat 6-7 times a day....don't make excuses...

2. Take fiber, 2x a day, and I personally believe in colon cleansing.

3. Do cardio...but don't just go through the motions...everything you have, every time and keep a log and constantly improve.

4. Lift free weights....and again...don't just go through the motions...everything you have, every time and keep a log and constantly improve.

What's his BW?

I think she started in powerlifting then transitioned into bb. And she still competes in lifting competitions. I'll try to find her name, she's still in the top echelon.

Good advice. It's funny how some people think if you weigh within a certain window, like someone who is 5'10" and weighs 150 Lbs, is lean when in fact they can easily have a bf of 30%. It's all about what you eat!

I worked with a guy 5'10" 150/60 and his bf was super high. If you grabbed his arm it felt like a sponge. Like you were pressing a marshmallow. He had very very little muscle.

Checked hubby's log book, he's doing pretty good, bf has dropped another percent, and yet his weight has stayed the same. His muscle weight went up also, about two pounds. Bravo! Proud of him, I know he's really trying.

But I told him "Do Not Get Below 18%". That's too lean, I don't want to feel like Im hugging an Erection! LOL

The kid still isn't sure what he wants to do, loves football, but he's only like 5'8" or so. Last thing I read about him he was training for the discus and shut put throw. At 17 he's got plenty of time to decide.

She did. When you mentioned how big she was and that she was in the upper echelon it was the first female that came to mind because I know she has dabbled in BB.

This is what gets to me when people say weight loss and all that matters is cals in. vs cals out Weight loss is not the issue unless it's for meeting certain weight classes in various sports and competition, what matters is fat loss , at least to me. If I was 200lbs of solid muscle I'd be thrilled to death, if I was 165lbs with high body fat and no muscle to speak of, well that's a whole different story and I would not be happy at all.

I hear ya, it's also pretty crazy the amount of calories needed to maintain a lean body. A 150 Lbs man w/30% BF needs less than 2,000 cals a day to maintain, yet a 150 man w/12% BF will need over 3,000 cals a day to maintain their weight. Fat burns almost zero cals vs muscle.

Seeing this thread needs a good bump I thought I'd post this. It's a long read so I'll just put the link. It's about the effect on fats and resistance training, written by Will Brink, for those who haven't heard of him he is the owner of Body Building Revealed and the Brink Zone.
