Very very sorry to hear about your daughter. I can't imagine anything more horrifying for a parent. Its disgraceful that GM put profits above safety. I would be very upset with GM for knowingly selling defective vehicles. Your daughter will be in my prayers. |

The new CEO will be consumed for sure. She was promoted from within (bad idea IMO) so not sure how defensive she will be. GM should recall all of the cars affected not only for ethical reasons, but to resolve trust with future consumers. That is obvious from the outside.
How they act on it will be telling of the new leadership. GM's problem for a generation has been the leadership. The leadership started to change from fortress Detroit and spreadsheet decision making after 2008, but we'll have to see how they deal with this crisis and how innovative new products are. |

I still don't understand how the engine shutting off results in a fatal crash. I've had it happen to me many times, never caused me to crash. What happens if someone runs out of gas? Should they expect to instantly crash then force gm to provide us with fuel tanks that never go empty? I just can't connect the dots between engine stops, you crash. I remember driving cars when I was younger that didn't have power steering, so I don't see a problem there, power brakes, done that one too...
I just don't get it... |

If you were a 18 year-old smallish woman without much upper body strength, a loss of power steering in some of these cars would net you without much ability to turn the wheel. Plus, you don't know how other people may handle emergency situations. Some may be calm and know what to do, others may simply freak out and panic.
Maybe some good can come in the future....LIKE PUSH BUTTON START!

I think a lot of people assume everything will work perfectly, so they're completely caught off guard when it doesn't. Nobody bothers to teach new drivers how to handle emergencies because they've become rarer as car quality has improved and most people are driving new cars. Those of us that started out in less than perfect cars learned to expect the unexpected and how to handle things like engine stalling and brake pedals that go all the way to the floor or clutches that lockup, or throttle cables that stick. My first car was a 40 year ol 56 belair, stuff broke pretty often

![]() Also a good reminder to give some pointers to any new drivers in your family and maybe run through some "what if" scenario's.

So when are you selling your Camaro since you seem to want to jump on the GM witch hunt? Yeah we all get you have some major issue with it, so stick it to the GM man and go buy a Toyota.
It is a horrible thing that has happened to people because of this. There are ways to make GM pay for it but these " who do we go after next" things are just getting old. In a month there were be another bunch of garbage come out of the wood work about some other manufacture. It's sadly the way of the world and people will quickly forget about their fits of rage on this issue. |

I am worried about the people that will be turning off the switches on purpose and crashing their cars even a little bit and blaming their ignition switch just to get money out of GM. Just like the rash of unintended acceleration claims that suddenly started happening to every model Toyota. I guarantee you it will happen if it hasn't already.
