At least Cadillac is saying you have to work hard, Mercedes implied you had to make a deal with the devil to own one.

I find it funny that people complain about the guy in the ad being arrogant, but it has been my experience that this guy is completely down to earth and friendly when compared to the majority of hybrid and electric car owners.
I would also guess there aren't keys in them. Just a switch. Lol

We're did you put the keys?

I don't know I thought you had them.

Last I saw them they were next to the tang.

Lol the commercial is on as I type this.

Why does this have to offend people? God forbid this ad would inspire someone to work harder and better themselves so they could afford a Cadillac someday.

When I see a Corvette on the dealership floor, I don't think "it's unfair to flaunt this in front of people who can't afford it," I think "I'm going to put myself in a position where I can have this in my 30's if I want to."

Hell, one of the main reasons I'm finishing my Ph.D. is because it will enable me to have a sweet garage.

We live in a society that now is ashamed of the American dream. This guy espouses the American dream. Work your butt off, get ahead, make a great life for yourself. It certainly doesn't happen that way for everyone and yes there is luck, good fortune and a lot of intangibles needed to make it, but in this great country it remains possible.

Today, it is more that isn't fair that some people have achieved something, that achieving the American dream is now something to be ashamed of simply because it isn't fair. And this commercial is apparently a reminder for those people.

I'd say it's less about luck and more about choices people make. A lot of people don't realize that success is a choice.

I don't see why people are getting so upset. I can't undestand why any individual would find it offensive. I do however, recognize the irony. The commercial seems to suggest that success and prosperity are purely the result of capitalism and hard work by the individual, but the current success, prosperity, and existence of General Motors can be almost completely attributed to the input of millions of people in one of the most socialist actions ever taken by the US government. I don't think it's anything to write home about, but GM still needs tread carefully with their advertising.

OP it seems like you danced around it, but didn't specifically say that is your site or at the very least your article, though that is obviously the case. Why not just come out and say it?

Anything--- ANYTHING--- will find haters online. How 'bout "Hot Facebook Mom?" Geez... she got a lot of hate for being fit (and, well, hot). "Hate the Rich!" that's the battle cry of those who have not. Most likely, the rich busted their ass to get rich... and I can respect that. Sure, lots of people will bust their ass and NEVER get rich, but that's not a valid reason to hate those who HAVE succeeded. Hate on SUVs? Holy smokes... even though my Suburban will deliver more people to a destination using fewer gallons of fossil fuels than the required fleet of hybrids, well, still gotta hate SUVs. And when the SUV haters are done griping about MPGs, they say that SUVs are STILL evil because they give an unfair advantage in a collision with a smaller car. Fine... but my family is going to have the advantage over theirs, because I believe in protecting my family. Hate on guns, hate on wealth, hate on big oil, hate on pharm, hate on America (Don't you love those Americans--- AMERICANS--- who jump all over the notion that we really asked for the events of 9/11 because Americans are horrible people... so it's our fault?). Hate on Cheerios for showing a mixed- race couple... hate on Barbie... hate on Mustangs (ok, that one is legit)... hate on a Volkswagen commercial because a WHITE MAN spoke with a Trinidad accent... and hate on Cadillac for an ad that extolls the virtues of the American Dream.

That commercial made me smile. So few things make me proud to be an American anymore.

The actor in it is very good, too. He is an excellent bad guy.

It is, but I wasn't ready to claim it until I got it just right. I still have changes I'd like to make, and I'd like some more writers. That site is just a place to collect some thoughts and news on GM. All the good stuff will keep coming to Camaro5.
