Gasoline being a derivative of oil, the terms become sort of interchangeable, at least in the realm of braodly flexible vanity plate terminology. One can assume that pretty much any car with a Tesla logo on the nose is not burning gasoline... at least not directly. The plate on the car did not suggest that he was saving the world, just that his car is not burning oil. Note also how the apparent debatality of his words have generated discussion on the matter, thereby making his plate successful, whether one agrees with his "claim" or not.

I, for one, am looking forward to seeing that happen. If a USN aircraft carrier supporting 5000 people--- a city--- only needs to refuel every 20 years, a car with nuclear energy powering it ought to be able to run right past every Chevron, Shell, and Valero for longer than the the wheel bearings, transmission, or headliner lasts!

I think that license plate refers to not burning oil. His wife's car is probably a Porsche Cayenne that gets 14MPG. Electric cars have their place. Personally I wouldn't mind having one along with the Camaro to balance out the family fuel budget. (I don't want a compromised Camaro with cylinder deactivation, 4-cyl, etc). Tesla, designed and built in the USA. Outsold BMW, Lexus and Mercedes in its markets. Damn cool car and story.

I wish people would follow the money in the anti-oil lobby, and start making some inferences and connections. They could see that the anti-oil movement is about weakening our economy, our world power and influence, and the power of conservatives within this Country.

BTW I love the Tesla, and not because I'm anti-oil. I love that a new American car company is trying to make a go of it by trying to fill a market segment that exists but with few options. I don't think Elon's strategy is going to work though. Basically, his strategy is that of an IT company. Sell the new model for a couple of years at a high price and a small profit. When the tech used to power that new model becomes super cheap in a few years, sell the old model at a much lower cost and decent profit, and make a new model with the latest and greatest. (think iPhones or computers). Not sure that's gonna work in a car company because the cost of MATERIALS is so high, and raw material is certainly NOT getting any cheaper.

that plate is kind of ignorant only because Tesla guy sounds desperate for attention

It is IGNORANT to post any kind of SIGN or PLATE on your car that is designed to just trigger a "response"...such as the following:

1) Putting and EQUALS sign on the back of your car (no one asked their opinion about gay/lesbians but they FORCE you to know about it.)

2) Political stickers (Democrat/Republican/Independent)...Yet again, no one asked but you FORCE everyone to have info they didn't want. Peons actually think they are "important" to Politicians when they are actually viewed as a peon. You just look dumb putting that sticker there. (you actually think ANYONE that gets elected is going to just magically fix/change anything. they can't. they won't. they are all the same.)

3) Sign like "bye oil". You are telling people your car does not use oil or gas, but you still have to recharge it somewhere using electricity likely produced with something else that is not green.

4) Any sign saying where you went to college. (who cares/no one asked/and you probably have a bachelor of FARTS degree anyway which means you have nothing to be bragging about).

5) Symbols saying what FRAT you joined. (Notice you never see those symbols on ANY car in an expensive neighborhood with houses that cost a lot, or on expensive cars. You DO SEE that on expensive cars always parked in a run down apt. complex.

OP: I get it. Most of the Prius / Tesla owners are very arrogant about why they bought the car. And they love to tell you how they are "saving the world", and that Im killing my childrens world, blah blah.
I agree, they are DUMB to think they are saving anything. Last time I checked, coal amounted to 75% of the elec in this country.

Bottom line to me? Buy what you want, but dont get in MY face and tell my why you are better than i am because of what I drive. You will NOT like my response

I think he just has that car and that plate to get tree hugging ladies into his bed which uses hemp sheets it's not bad angle. Also electric vehicles sound great till we all plug them in and down goes the grid. On real hot days we are in electrical brown outs so all ours cars plugged when we get home crank up ac in house. Bye bye grid. I think it's pick your poison

So I'm ignorant for understanding that electric cars don't make a difference to the environment, but he isn't for saying that his car doesn't use fossil fuels. Makes sense.
