Everything I've seen about 6th gen Camaro: decent 4 cylinder, turbo 6 with 420 HP, and a new v8 engine making more power. If the design is right GM is going to hit another home run.
Couple things:

I understand the 5.0 may get fitted with direct injection and the power bumped to around 450HP or so.

Mustangs turbo 4 will likely have 300 - 320 HP, but also probably well over 300 TQ so even though it may not have more, or just barely more HP than the V6, the extra torque and efficency will make it an optional engine above the base V6.

Camaro will probably do the same thing and I doubt we will see a turbo V6 option. GM is working on a next generation V6 that I've read is called the "LGX". It will likely be more efficent, but hopefully also more powerful than the current LFX 3.6 V6....hoping somewhere between 330- 350HP and hopefully 290 - 300 TQ.

If the Camaro gets a turbo 4, I'm not sure if they will make it the base engine or optional like Ford, but if they follow Ford's lead I'm sure it will have around 300 HP and well over 300TQ as well.

Then you can expect the LT1 V8 to go in the SS model with around 450 HP.

Strangely, I have seen none of that. Unless 'new V8' means 'LT1'

lol, I was referring to the next gen engine that GM was supposed to have planned. Not sure if it's in the vette's yet. I remember reading on this forum the next gen vettes and Camaros were getting a new v8.

You guys are the GM people so you tell me; I'm a convert from from Ford.

It's the Gen V small block V8. In the Corvette, it's the LT1.

Bringing back an old thread again...

I've been searching for quite awhile to find tuning results for this engine.

I finally found something from KPE (I believe also partnered with IPF or something along those lines) and the results are pretty impressive if you ask me.

The graph below is from the XTS VSport, not the CTS-VSport and I think this is an AWD model. I'm looking forward to seeing results from the CTS RWD cars.

Green is stock. Blue is a stage 1 tune, and red is the stage 2 tune.

Wow good find, good results.
Wonder if the turbos realy are running of steam or is it the tune tapering it down on the right side.

Edmunds ran the new Vsport on a chassis dyno: 435HP and 388ft-lb

http://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/t...no-tested.html

Not bad for a car rated at 420HP at the crank

You've got that backwards: it showed 388 hp & 435 ft-lbs.

But I would take any 'dyno review' with a massive helping of salt. Seems like almost every single car that gets tested is 'under rated'. Once or twice, fine it can happen. But 10 cars from 8 brands doing it? Something fishy is going on. Could be a happy dyno, could be factory ringers, could be a less-than-impartial dyno operator. In any case, I don't believe those are numbers that a normal buyer should expect.

If they put that as an offering in the next Gen Camaro, then what kind of power adder or motor combos will they offer for V8 as there wouldnt be a need for the L99 or possibly LS3 as it sits.

The next generation V8 Camaro will probably get a GenV motor like the LT-1. I'm not sure if we'll see the LF3 in the next Camaro, but if we do it will probably fit between the base model and the V8 model in terms of power. As for price, who knows?

I would be pretty surprised to see both the LF3 and the LT1 in the 6th gen, as I don't see how the LF3 would be any cheaper to produce than the LT1 and the power would be fairly close as well.

I guess GM could offer a smaller turbo V6 like a 3.0 or something like that and rate the power at say 350hp/350TQ, but again I doubt it would be cheaper to produce, and thus couldn't really sell it at a cheaper price than the LT1.

If I was a betting man I'd bet on a lineup similar to the new Mustang. Turbo 4, V6, and V8. What I can't decide on just yet is if the turbo 4 would be considered the base and the V6 the optional or the other way around. For me, it really depends on how much power and efficiency these next generation V6s GM is developing are capable of.

Otherwise, I guess you could make a case for turbo 4, small displacement turbo V6, and the LT1 V8.

My $.02....I think the V-6 is here to stay for sure....The turbo-4 I don't think we'll see right away in the Camaros...probably a few more years to go....The 6 should be bumped up in performance before an I-4 outperforms it in the line-up....My line-up guess....V-6, V-8 (LT-1)....later on, pumped up V-6, V-8 and an I-4....I would like to see the I-4 be the base model, the V-6 ahead of it....The V-6 will have to be the top dog eventually when V-8s go bye-bye...(not for a little while at least)....
