The new Mustang is disappointingly bland. It's okay but to me that's a problem for a car that's supposed to be exciting and get your blood pumping; it shouldn't be just "okay". It doesn't look powerful, it doesn't look fast... it looks like your mom's idea of "sporty". The dash looks overly-busy. I'm not a Ford fan per se but I'd prefer to see a great Mustang instead of not-so-great.

The only reason a 4-cylinder Camaro would sell is not because it has 4-cylinders; the ricer crowd does all kinds of things to their cars trying to get them to perform like an 8-cylinder car. It would sell because of the price being lower. If GM came up with a base model 4-cylinder Camaro priced at $19,990 it would sell because of looks and price; performance would be the secondary issue to that particular demographic. Is that a good marketing move for GM? Personally I don't think so; to me it would dilute the Camaro image and reputation. I'd prefer them to come up with a "sporty" Chevelle that started in the $18,990 range and make that the younger brother to the Camaro. It wouldn't have to have all the performance abilities of the Camaro; it could easily have a nice and peppy 4-cylinder with a turbo option on a reasonably light chassis and it would sell to the younger crowd.

With a V8 Camaro north of $30k, that's why the V6 sells...it's not because V6 owners don't want a V8, it's the much lower price; a great looking car they can afford. An entry-level performance car that looks good; not bland, not like your mom's idea of "sporty", but looks pretty darned good in its own right...priced just below the $20k mark so it's affordable to entry-level buyers... that would sell.

GM should forget what Ford's doing and just take the lead. Let the competition worry about what GM's doing; not the other way around.

A lot of people on this forum slap random pieces on their that either doesn't flow or just plain ugly in most peoples eyes but most people just say "to each their own", which means "its ugly, try again". People tend to be timid on criticism, negative or positive. I'm not even a Mustang fan and will probably never be an owner but give respect where its due.

Originally, the 2015 Ford Mustang was to be offered with only two engines, the 5.0-liter V-8 and the all-new EcoBoost 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Both are mated to Ford’s six-speed transmissions, which have been upgraded to handle additional power and, for the automatic, to provide smoother shifts. The 3.7-liter V-6 was added to the Mustang stable during development for a very simple reason: price, although it will be months before pricing is announced.“We wanted the Mustang to remain obtainable to our customers, so we kept the V-6 as the base model,” said vehicle engineering manager Tom Barnes.Ford did not release final power numbers on any of the engines, but admitted the 3.7-liter will produce the same output it does now at 305 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.

The 5.0-liter gets bigger intake and exhaust valves and a higher-lift cam profile. All 5.0 models will get the former Boss 302 valve springs and connecting rods as well as an oil cooler. Output should exceed the 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque currently found on the 5.0-liter. Top speed for the new Mustang GT will be electronically limited at 155 mph.

The twin-scroll, turbocharged direct injection 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine will move the Mustang into a much more modern world as well as bolster Ford’s EcoBoost name. The 2.3 will outpower the V-6, engineers said, and is expected to earn the best fuel economy numbers in the musclecar class.

The more pictures I see, the more I like it. I can not wait to see it in person. In my eyes, this car is more an evolution of where the 99-04 cars may have gone before it went retro.

Looks ok to me but really need to see it up close to judge it all. Really looking forward to seeing what a Shelby version looks and performs like. Base GT's and SS's don't really do much for me these days, I like enhanced versions that take cars to the next level like 1LE's, GT500's, Z06 etc, performance with factory warranties.

You can tell the influence on design is to appeal to the global demographic. They sucked a lot of the american design out of it. The coupe really looks a lot like the 370Z from the side and the head lights feel like they have a strong Japanese design influence as well. Reminds me of Infinity's.

I don't like it. The interior seems to be a carry over of the current car with slight tweaks and most likely better materials. The real changes for it are how it will perform. My guess is it will do a lot better than the current car. With about 200lbs less weight and the addition of the IRS along with small bumps in power for the existing powertain I'm sure it will be the quickest and best handling Mustang yet.

Knowing what has gone on with the 6th gen Camaros alleged platform mate the ATS I think GM will be in good shape performance wise. The weight issue will be gone and drastically different and they will most likely put the LT1 into in which will boost the performance along with what ever other adjustments they do to the handling. GM has the goods to do a turbo 6 or 4 if they feel customers would buy it. Really it's gonna come down to styling. If GM nails it they will steal the domestic sales lead again, but they might also give up the international sales to Mustangs broader approach in design. I'll take it.

I like it too. The V6 version will look weak as usual but a GT will look really good with bigger and wider wheels. The hi-po versions will look real nice too.

But honestly, I want to know the final stats: curb weight and HP/TQ. This is what is going to really influence the 6th gen's development.

Well I bet the new Mustang will outsell the current Camaro at least until the 6th gen arrives , unless Chevy has another surprise coming next year....
Anyway it will be interesting to see Chevy's response. Stay Retro Modern or go euro modern like the 2nd Gen did.
