Lets face it, we don''t even know which version of the Alpha platform the Camaro will be on, the ATS version, or the larger and heavier CTS version. We probably know MORE about the mustang right now than the 6th gen is some respects and that isn't much. I just find it hilarious the people saying that there is no way the mustang will compare even though as much is known about the 6th gen as the next Mustang. One thing you can't deny is the C5 and next gen mustang will be sold side by side for at least a couple years and here ford will have the advantage point blank knowing where to aim and how hard. No we don't know much, but there is some serious common sense you are ignoring and continue to do so.
Most of this post is just wrong, but I will say this: you don't know anything about the new Mustang accept that it will have "the advantage".

It's not wrong, it just doesn't agree with you fanboism and incorrect assumptions. in any case we will see.

We all know based on the 1le that hp isn't everything. It comes down to how you handle the weight of the car that makes a better driving vehicle. Now if Chevy can get the weight to within 100-150lbs and make about the same hp it should be a good race but the extra torque of the lt1 might win out over the higher revving ford but only time will tell and I for one even as a die hard GM guy can't wait. Hopefully the camaro can regain its crown for the fastest pony car like it had back in 93,94,95,96,97,98,99,00,01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09 and 2010.(Z28vsGT)

Do yourself a favor and reread post 59 and you will clearly see where I said (z28vsGT). Now if you want to add the termi thats fine then take 03/04 off my list if it makes you feel better but it doesnt change the fact that the ls1 even gone was still faster then a mustang even after they gave it a new engine once the f-body's died off. It just proves that competion is your best friend because ford didn't offer anything until Chevy came back with the camaro. Although they waited a bit to long to offer a stout motor they did deliever once it happened and IMO it trumped GM like they did ford back in 97 with the ls1.

As for the chassis comment I already admitted to being wrong on that in post 99. Once again I'm going to suggest you read everything before you play correction police.

The base Corvette engine had always been put in the V8 Camaro, and I don't see why they would change that. The LT1 is a perfect fit.

Agreed.

Why wouldn't it be?

LT1 with 475 hp in a sub-3600 lb. Camaro, in a limited run (CAFE, pricing), means Gen-6 Z/28...

You're right, without the LS1 running a full second faster in the 1/4 vs the Mustang, Ford got lazy. I will say I love the 5.0, but it didn't trump the LS3 like the LS1 trumped the 2v of the day. It pretty much put the two cars neck and neck finally, and then Chevy went and did more revisions to the (much stiffer and advanced) chassis and suspension a few years down the road to one up Ford once again. It's a cat and mouse game they played for a long time, and with the fbody gone, Ford got lazy. I can not be happier about the FE4 updates, 1LE package, ZL1 and the Z28 being offered. I buy what the best deal is at the time, and at the end of 2010 beginning of 2011, the GT fit my bill. If I fit in the Camaro better it would have been closer. In 2013, if I was buying one, maybe I could over look the comfort issues in the Camaro for me looking at what you can get for the money.

My point is, everyone STFU with this is better then that, nobody will know until they are both out. You can bet your ass though that Ford is using a 1LE as a benchmark for their new GT platform. Or if they are smart they would be. Knowing Ford, they will give the new GT a 475hp V8, a well sorted IRS, but then give it 205 section all season tires from the factory.

This shows how competition between automakers is great for the consumer. Ford knew the 01 Cobras were terrible, so to try and become top pony car, they came out with the terminators, but by then the F bodys were dead. So they were playing catch up in the early part of the decade

S197's come out with the 300HP 3V while some thought was lacking, was acceptable though bc there was no competition for the mustang. GM sees how well retro mustang is selling and the next year has the Camaro concept out. Camaro comes out as a 2010 and Ford refreshes mustang exterior and next year releases the 5.0 to combat the LS3 again a year behind.

Then Ford got the upper hand by releasing the BOSS 302 and LS for the corner carvers, GM Responds with the 1LE and now the Z/28 which is just going to decimate everything.

GM goes to release 580 hp ZL1 camaro, ford offers up the 662 HP GT500

its a great time to be an auto enthusiast because right now Ford and GM are working hard to one up each other much quicker than before.

You gotta love the HP wars. I'm surprised you're still without a pony.

Don't get offended, didn't mean anything by it, just conversation.

That has been the problem all along, the stang is too heavy as is the Challenger.Had a Cobra challenge me on the street Saturday,He took off and I was not impressed,I watched and laughed.

haha. Waiting for the right time and place for one to come along. As bad ass as the 5.0s are, I have been thinking about getting back into an older mustang. I would love to get a 04, mostly because I miss my old 04 gt so much haha. Im sure that could be fixed with a test drive of a 5.0 tho lol

The LT1 should get close to 30 MPG, I don't see why CAFE would limit it.

Not sure either, maybe has something to do with the amount of vehicles it goes in

1) CAFE 2016 calls for a 35.5 mpg AVERAGE (NOT highway), so anything below 30 AVERAGE is going to be built in restricted numbers, or pay exorbitant GG taxes.

2) In that "environment", do you think the next-Gen Camaro SS will weigh LESS (it will) with even MORE (than 426) hp? It won't...

3) Today's SS has roughly 9.16 lb/hp. To stay close to that (for volume builds), expect an LT-0.85 for hp...

4) 475 hp in 3500 lbs = Z/28...where a GG of a $Grand or $Two won't really matter...

...and what works in Warren will work in Dearborn...and vice versa...

2 things to consider is that it is an average over the whole lineup, and the formula they use for cafe is different and provides considerably higher numbers than what we see on the on the window sticker so I would say we can epect at least 440-450 from an SS tuned LT1. IMHO, not wanting to step on the Vettes toes is more likely to hold the COrvette back than Cafe. now, what will happen with GG taxes could make a difference and I am curious if the threshhold for that will increase also.
