ROBOSSRS, after everything I have read, it sounds to me like you should run for it while you still can. Take the money and invest it somehow. I know it's got to be hard after 35 years to make any kind of move, but I'm guessing I don't have to tell you what they think you're worth. It doesn't sound like any of your available paths will be easy. But I know exactly what it's like to sit at company and watch it crumble from the inside right before your eyes. That's what I was enduring up until I lost my job last month. We were slowly shedding people until it got to the point that I would be doing sales one day, marketing the next, and then out to the warehouse to be the shipping clerk for a few days. Needless to say I only got one paycheck.
Anyone that knows me, knows that I saw it coming for awhile. But it happened far sooner that we had anticipated. Of course management would never admit that anything was wrong. They just said everything is going to be okay! They were so backward that the CEO would still repeat the tired mantra that books were recession proof. He's a complete idiot and a coward that wouldn't face me when I got my layoff notice.
So I know you're probably trapped somewhere between your comfort zone, and the message in the writing on the wall. And trying to decide on what to do between those to forces. I'm from the Rust Belt myself, so I'm guessing jobs are not plentiful. And I have no doubt that your age weighs heavy on your mind. Age discrimination is very real. I honestly wish I could give you happy reassurances, but I really don't feel confident in anything I can tell you. Plus I have no doubt that my perspective is more than somewhat clouded by my current circumstances. I wish you all the best and hope you can come to some decision that puts you on a good path. One that leaves you comfortable, healthy and happy.

I apologize if my tone got darker as I went on. I didn't intend for it to go that way. I just realized that I am still angry and getting angrier as I look around and see more and more people I know, losing their jobs. And the most disturbing trend is that it is predominantly people our age and experience level.
Amen, brother.

Understand, I have a loaded pistol aimed in the direction I'm looking, so safety comes off and I yell at him to get on the ground... no response (mistake). I tell him where he is and that I have a weapon aimed at his head and to GET ON THE GROUND! Down he goes.

He starts telling me who he is and he thought he was at his girlfriends house. Turns out he had a loaded pistol as well. I get his gun and I.D. he says he lives just outside of Ft. Sill, then tells me he lives on my highway 1/2 mile away. Story is full of holes. He's reeking of alcohol. I unloaded his pistol and let him talk, tells me he's Aaron Johnson and new to the area, but he got lost. I know he's full of shit but since I have his name and vehicle info I send him on his way.

Probably should have kept his pistol and let him come back for it tomorrow, just to see him in the day light. Still smells fishy. He don't realize how close he came to getting in a real live shootout at OK Corral

There is a church building about 1/2 mile up the hill from me. On Tuesday nights about once a month the ladies auxillary has a meeting. One time they were having some dinner at their meeting. A few of the ladies didn't want to be leaving their purses at the dinner table so they put them in the cupboards in the kitchen area.
A guy sees the lights on and figures there are people there so he decides to see what he can find. He goes in, finds the kitchen. No one is in the kitchen at the moment so he starts to help himself to some of the food there. While he is eating is starts looking around and discovers a couple of the purses. About that time a couple of the ladies come into the kitchen. They start asking him who he is and what he is doing there. He starts backing towards the door.
Long story a bit shorter, he gets out the door and high-tails it. About that time the ladies discover that he has gone thru their purses and the wallets are missing. They call the cops. In the meantime they discover that he has left his backpack in the corner of the kitchen. In the backpack they find his discharge papers from prison - with his home address on the papers.
Here's yer sign dude. Don't let the other inmates steal it.

Hi everyone!

Rainy day here in Peoria today.

Corporate America has DRASTICALLY changed in the last 4-5 years, and certainly not for the better.

Its a cold and snowy day here but its supposed to warm up a little by the weekend. We found a home for our foster puppy Kanga we will be taking her to meet her forever parents tomorrow. I was teasing my wife that she is going to make me cry on my birthday.

I am a sucker for animals and I always get attached to the foster dogs and cry when we give them to the new owners. I told her it was ok I know she is going to a good home and since tomorrow is my 50th birthday I would have probably cried anyway

This is a little more complicated than just wiggling around

It's taken me about 5 months to start to feel comfortable with the beginner steps.........I'm moving on to the advanced beginner for the most part............Wild Bill's here I come. My daughter goes with me. We're working on a line dance for her wedding reception in lieu of the traditional father daughter dance

BTW, is it about time to trade in your car.........

Good evening crew. I think I have created a monster. Now Mike is obsessed with Ruby Too. She started jumping up on the bed but is scared to jump down & gets mad if we try to help her. Mike hates closing up her huge split-level habitat at night or while we are gone in the day. He is in there now building a cage (with plastic wiring) around the bed so we can leave the cage open without worrying she will get "stuck" (scared to get down) on the bed or fall between the matress & the wall & get stuck for real. He comes by the house several times a day to "check on her". He is silly in love with her. So much for MY rabbit that he argued with me about getting.
