You guys aren't serious are you?

You guys who think that the Top Gear guys are biased against American cars should refrain from further comments on the show lest you look more foolish than you already have.

Simply put, you don't understand British humor. British and Australian humor is very ascerbic and should not be taken seriously; especially if it is a recurring theme. They know their comments piss people off and that is the point of doing it, because it makes fools of people who don't get it. It's called sarcasm, and anyone who has been the butt of a joke at a live comedy show understands this.

The fact that there are contradictions in their statements reveal their true feelings. Of all the people, Jeremy's statements should be taken least seriously. Richard and James on the other hand are less sarcastic and tend to mean more what they say. Jeremy makes comments purely for their entertainment value; comedy is "to make fun of", and since cars aren't really "comedy material", therefore either the people who make them or the people who drive them are made fun of.

I don't know what else to say, or how else to educate you on "sarcasm". You either get it by now, or you'll never get it. For those of us who "get it" - we simply just understand the underlying message behind sarcasm - we don't take it at face value.

The "makes you more attractive to your sister" is precisely making fun of you guys who don't understand sarcasm. It makes you look "inbred" to people who understand wit. It wouldn't be made against say Germans or British because they have a better sense of humor and therefore internationally don't have a reputation for appearing dull-witted.

I assume that's all sarcasm, and that you really mean we're great people.

Anyway, Top Gear UK tends to compare cars that are similar regardless of price. They'll mention price as an advantage or dis-advantage for a car, but they pretty much treat it as one of many features a car may have over another car. That's also why they tend not to test many low-priced cars, there's just not much in them to write a review about.

Of course!

The only time you have to worry is if one of the Top Gear guys has NOTHING good to say about your favorite brand. For example Jeremy Clarkson HATES Priuses and Peroduas. But he's constantly revealing a genuine respect for American cars, eg. Viper, ZR1, Ford GT (in fact, quite a few regular Fords too), even the Mustang (Roush). He also makes Nazi references in front of Sabine Schmitz even though he clearly admires her.

Rez... your post gave me an aneurism. I know that English humour is rich with sarcasm... which is 1/2 the reason I like alot of it. Black Adder anyone? The best of all time though was Benny Hill.

BTW that was more of an agreement post rather than a critical one.

Sent from my friggin Droid by two thumbs using Tapatalk 2 or whatever the ish it's called....

Can't wait for them to dissect the new C7...

Sidenote: Speaking of Fords, they also like new Boss 302...
"You don’t have to sign a legal waiver before you drive the new Boss 302, but it might be an idea anyway. Because the car doesn’t just encourage you to act like a hooligan, it positively insists on it. The latest – and undoubtedly greatest – of the modern Mustangs, the new 302 is the best-balanced and most sorted muscle car you can buy today."

ooooh ok, yes we are so foolish. Thank you for your great logic in the two quoted posts:

"It's a recurring theme, it isn't to be taken seriously... but you only have to worry if they have nothing good to say."

Yea, makes a lot of sense right there, thanks for educating us.

Well obviously you need more time in school.

The dig at American cars is a recurring joke; but their comments aren't ALL bad against American cars. This contradiction/inconsistency indicates that the insults are jokes, and not true feelings. If they were true feelings, then they would never say good things about American cars; since they do say very good things about American cars - then the insults are sarcastic jokes.

There, did I verbalize it simply enough for you? I thought my first explanation was clear, and frankly quite insulting in my mind since I didn't think I had to explain sarcasm, but apparently some people really don't understand it.

The funny thing is, Clarkson isn't insulting American cars when he uses sarcasm - he's insulting those who get upset about it.

What a load of horse sh!t. Need we be reminded of him and his posse carousing through the US south with the idea of offending everyone by claiming "redneck" and "hick".

Here let me show you how your sense of "sarcasm" works.

I think your a pomous d!ck. - The insult

Not only that, I think your reasoning makes you an excuse making d!ck. - Reaffirmation

But defending there "humor" just proves what a giant focking d!ck you are- Reacurring insult.

Oh yeah Its my sarcastic humor and your a d!ck for not getting it.

An insult is an insult.

Yes, keep talking trash and running your mouth. Good for you. The only "contradiction/inconsistency" here is your failed attempts at explaining "sarcasm".

And if they constantly feel the need to be "sarcastic" about American cars, then that is a bias, as I mentioned in my first post in this thread.

So have fun dishing out your internet insults that don't even address the point we are making.
