on a side note i keep my SW99 the same way since there is no mechanical lock out safety on the gun

So you do this intentionally. It's not that you CAN'T have a mag in with the safety on. Is this right?

Now I have an AR, with a closed bolt, a loaded and installed mag, no round in the chamber, and the safety on. Are you saying you can't have a loaded mag in your gun with the bolt forward and the safety on at the same time?
Yes. You can technically do it either way. If the hammer is back, you can switch to safe. If the hammer is down and the bolt forward you cannot.

My understanding is that it was designed so that a soldier wouldn't pick his rifle up in the fire position, only to dry fire it. It's really a personal preference, and not any less safe.

My thoughts as well. No reason to put tension on the hammer if I'm going to need to charge it anyway.

Alright. Confusion cleared up. I really read that to mean that for some strange reason, your rifles were incapable of having a mag in and being on safe, which would obviously make someone very confused.

In Ohio I can't have a loaded magazine if I don't have my concealed carry. It is considered a loaded firearm whether its in my hand or in my trunk.

We're all talking about in our homes I think. I don't have mine loaded when I take it to the range. Magazines empty, and ammo in a separate storage container than the gun.

Texas Dad poses as gunman to test school security, gets arrested

... Good idea, bad implementation.

Yea. Good idea, but not the way to go about it.

It's amazing that schools spend all kinds of money and time to make sure our schools are fire proof, including running fire drills, but adding security is somehow paranoid.

We have no problem having armed guards protect our banks, sporting events or public officials, but heaven forbid we use them to protect our children.
