the Chevy that James Taylor was driving in Two Lane Blacktop was the same car Harrison Ford drove in American Graffiti Both Bob Falfa's Chevy and John Milner's Ford were real hotrods, not prop cars. Paul LeMat and Harrison Ford got in trouble helling around in the cars, and they also nearly killed Richard Dreyfuss by throwing him out of a Holiday Inn window, into the pool

|
So many to choose from, many of which have already been listed.
One of my favorites that I didn't see was a Clint Eastwood movie. The Outlaw Josie Wales wasn't mentioned. Here's some of my faves: Star Wars The Godfather One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest Chinatown The Sting Rocky Jaws Monty Python and the Holy Grail Deliverance A Clockwork Orange Dawn of the Dead Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (w/Gene Wilder) Close Encounters of the Third Kind Apocalypse Now Alien The Deer Hunter The Outlaw Josie Wales Superman The Great Waldo Pepper Patton The Bad News Bears Blazing Saddles High Plains Driver Duel Invasion of the Body Snatchers Tora Tora Tora Vanishing Point Smokey & the Bandit Every Which Way But Loose Logans Run Mad Max Oh God MASH Brians Song Animal House There's lots more...lots of good stuff then though.

Very few re-makes in that era. Creativity was very common in cinema then
He rode a blazing saddle He wore a shining star His job to offer battle to bad men near and far He conquered fear and he conquered hate He turned dark night into day He made his blazing saddle a torch to light the way When outlaws ruled the west And fear filled the land A cry went out for a man with guts to take the west in hand They needed a man who was brave and true with justice for all as his aim Then out of the sun rode a man with a gun And Bart was his name Yes Bart was his name He rode a blazing saddle He wore a shining star His job to offer battle to bad men near and far He conquered fear and he conquered hate He turned dark night into day He made his blazing saddle a torch to light the way

A lot of great movies listed here, and there are s many more from the 70's.
I am a huge movie buff. one interesting fact about a movie from the 70's, "Smokey & The Bandit". While SATB was probably not Oscar material, it was certainly funny. But what I find most interesting is that it would have been the #1 grossing film of 1977, except some guy named George made a movie called "Star Wars". Now, there were other films credited with being higher earning for 1977, but they were released at the end of the year and actually earned their box office in 1978. (Close Encounters and Saturday Night Fever) links to trailers of some of the movies mentioned in this thread, for those youngsters out there that never heard of these movies. (lol, no Adam Sandler wasn't in the "real" Longest Yard) - It's hilarious how some of the trailers are. So cheesy. It's amazing anyone went to some of these movies, lol. 1970 Airport MASH Five Easy Pieces - with Toni Basil, too. Oh Mickey, you're so fine. You're so fine you blow my mind. Patton 1971 The French Connection Dirty Harry - You've got to ask yourself one question; Do I feel lucky? A Clockwork Orange - I think Kubrick did a lot of LSD Vanishing Point - Kowalski and his supercharged Challenger Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory Duel - Early Spielberg Two Lane Blacktop 1972 The Godfather The Poseiden Adventure - You see a lot of Hackman in the 70's. Deliverance - Directed By john Boorman who did the excellent 1981 "Excalibur" with Liam Neeson, Hellen Mirren, Nigel Terry. The Getaway 1973 The Exorcist The Sting American Graffiti A lot of bad ass cars in there. Harrison Ford's Chevy, nice. Magnum Force Enter The Dragon Serpico High Plains Drifter Don't Look Now 1974 Blazing Saddles lol, so non-politically correct the trailer wouldn't even play today! Young Frankenstein - a big year for Gene Wilder Godfather Part II The Longest Yard The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (loved that they were the first to use the "this is a true story) angle on a fictional story) Chinatown Thunderbolt and Lightfoot TRANS AM appearance Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry Death Wish Gone In 60 Seconds 1975 Jaws - In my opinion, one of the best movies ever made One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest Dog Day Afternoon Three Days of the Condor - including the World Trade Center Rocky Horror Picture Show Monty Python & The Holy Grail Death Race 2000 1976 Rocky - Garret Brown invented the "steadicam" to smoothly film Stallone running. Probably used in almost every movie since. All the President's Men the Omen King Kong - Thank you, Jessica Lange, and whomever was in charge of wetting you down for this movie. The Enforcer - "The dirtiest Harry of them all", lol. The Bad News Bears - Buttermaker is every little league coach I remember from my childhood. The Outlaw Josey Wales Carrie Taxi Driver - A good flick. I don't think I would shoot Reagan over it, but someone would. Marathon Man Logan's Run - A drive in classic 1977 Star Wars Close Encounters of the Third Kind Smokey and the Bandit - TRANS AM appearance A Bridge Too Far The Deep - Thank you Jacqueline Bisset, and the guy who wet down your t shirt. The Gauntlet Saturday Night Fever - Tell me you don't hear the Bee Gee's and get some swagger in your walk Slapshot 1978 Animal House Hooper - TRANS AM appearance Heaven Can Wait Halloween The Deer Hunter - Who knew, Meryl Streep was kinda hot Midnight Express Invasion of the Body Snatchers Dawn of the Dead Force 10 From Navarone Up In Smoke Grease Every Which Way But Loose 1979 Apocolypse Now Alien The Jerk Mad Max The Warriors Last edited by Apex Paul; 12-04-2012 at 11:15 PM. |

A major reason was because they actually shot the footage on film as opposed to the computer generated crap that they do to save money today.
Plus, the writing was much better. Today, they seem to just recycle stuff over and over again.
