so what % of this 10-state area that is at "end of the world" status would you say those pics represent. 1% maybe?

That graphic represents power outages, not flooding.

This. And there's significant flooding in several states right now-- heavily, densely populated states. And I don't know who said end of the world, but it certainly wasn't me. All I'M saying is that this is going to have a big impact. It's a subtropical storm wrapped up in a nor'easter for lack of a better term, and can easily do as much damage as a cat 2/3 hurricane in the tropics.

And, yes, I studied meteorology in college and am a SKYWARN-certified storm chaser..

The storm surge alone is going to really screw things up....trust me.

Good luck to everyone in the path of this storm.....make sure to listen to all the restrictions put in place by you local/state gov'ts and stay off the roads to help the first responders......can't tell you how much that helps.
well said. It is like when the south gets a few inches of snow they don't have the resources, such as plows and salt and they shut down the whole state.

My work is not closing and we are expected to show up for our shift because it is only a Cat 1, but I have never lived through a hurricane before And I am scared.

Just hang on tight toots. I have been home since 1300, but then I started at 0500 today.

This explains a lot - those with a passion for weather tend to get excited and exaggerate whenever a storm comes through. Now if you excuse me I'm going to lay in the bathtub with my shock blanket, 6 cases of water, 4 gallons of milk, 3 loaves of bread and 2 generators and pray that I live through this one.

You're just so cool, aren't you? I'm the one exaggerrating? You're the one putting words in my mouth, talking down to me and others who simply started a thread to wish those on the East Coast well, and totally ignoring photos which show severe flooding and damaging winds well before landfall, as well as ships sinking off the coast and everything else that's going on.

Thanks for patronizing me, but I'm not a child. We'll see what's what in the next 48 hours. It's always sad, and yet amusing, when people who blew off warnings get hit hard and then make excuses. Hopefully you're not one of those, as reports are pouring in of rescues and National Guard activations.

So far in No. Va. we got wind and rain...supposed to get worse later and into tomorrow. The wife is being nice and letting me tuck the Camaro in the garage for now. No work for either of us till Wed, so as long as she doesn't need to go anywhere, I think it'll stay in there. Wed morning, the worst will be over, maybe just some low wind gusts and rain. I'll have to pull it out then and put it in my truck's spot when I go to work. It'll get wet, but I can't complain. BE SAFE ALL!!
