You are thinking of a traffic WARRANT. Those always come certified. Tickets most of the time do not. You're confused. Warrants double the original fine and etc.....but as for fines...

Look, I'm just telling the truth. Don't believe it, don't believe it. I'm used to that. BUT, I'm working for the public, so lets educate them with the truth, not just the law side. The problem is this issue is about a cop seeing a speeding offense, but not being able to catch them. What right does he have to mail a ticket to the driver for SPEEDING? Other offenses like a stop and give information would make sense. We are talking traffic code. The citation is a promise to appear. What's wrong with seeing a city envelope, throwin it, and saying "never saw the thing." Is it lying or something? NO because you didn't see the contents. Tactics like this (and red light cameras) make bad names for cops. It's all about that officer "padding" stats to make himself look good. It's a cop saying "I knew this was you when you passed me at 80 plus. Not your brother you let borrow your car, or your dad who may have let it get away from him for a minute. I know YOU were the one in the driver's seat." That's bad practice because there is someone somewhere who honestly did let their dad/brother/sister borrow a car and paid for their action later due to an officer doing something stupid like this.

To all those who say fight the 500, what if you get found guilty? Court costs and penalties on your license are far more than that. Don't fight it. Plead guilty on their first offer on the trial date. It's the best offer you will get.
.
There are quotas. They may not be in writing anymore but they are there.
Laws also vary state to state re courts/laws/etc.
Opinions also vary.

The state cops in Pa are getting out of hand with traffic stops. Meanwhile robberies, gang violence, home invasions, and crime as a whole is up in our state. There's more money in pulling over someone just trying to get to and from work then trying to combat real crime I guess.

Getting a nailed for 61 in a 55 is ridiculous.

You can do 50 hours of volunteer work instead of paying the fine.
As far as I know, CHP does not mail tickets to violators. The courts will mail courtesy notices to violators who were issued citations personally by the officer.
Do you know the name of the CHP officer that issued the citation to you? One who works the I680 beat was killed recently. Obviously not trying to take advantage of his death but anyone who received a citation from him should contest the ticket to get an automatic dismissal.

Gotta say, after all my years of driving and fighting tickets i have always felt that when in traffic court you are Guilty until you can prove yourself innocent and not the other way around as it should be.

My brother got a ticket a week ago in GA that didnt seem fair. The speed changed from 45 to 55 and he was litteraly feet away from the sign when he started speeding up and got pulled over. The officer said that 55 starts at the sign so he got a ticket for going over. Nothing against cops since i have family and friends in law enforcement, but some like that guy are A**h**** IMO and ruin the reputation of the police as a whole.

The freaking ticket is 377 or 429 if i choose to do traffic school. On top of that im sure traffic school is prob another 100. I cant believe how expensive tickets have gotten. I figured it would be around 300 Im lookin at about $500 when its all said and done. I dont know about other states but ca is getting ridiculous with there fines!:upset:
I agree with you, it's ridiculous. I don't hear you arguing the ticket, just the cost. Meybe you should set your cruise control for 75 next time through. hate the boundaries but they're there to keep us all a bit safer. Even if I think I'm doing ok going that fast, it might be someone else's mistake that takes us both out.
Love all the advice to help you weasel out of the fine, but hey, were you guilty? If so, suck it up and pay your fine.

good luck with that one.....if its a speed camera they have most likely made it a civil offense meaning if you pay it, then it won't go on your driving record and points. totally different ballgame. than the criminal side.
If it wasn't issued by an officer at the scene then it would have to come in the form of a traffic warrant (if it did not fall under one of the exceptions like it does here) and you would then be arrested and taken forthwith

To the OP.....man that is one hell of a steep fine.....good luck

I dont think they can mail you a speeding ticket... Maybe in cali they can but in NJ you have to be pulled over at the time of the offense to my knowledge unless it was a speed camera.

my total expenses has been a couple of radar detectors
and failure to stop completely at a blinking red light

Cop does not have to show for court on a mail ticket. It's a civilian employee who reviews the facts and mails it to you anyway. Usually, this is a person who works for the court (jp or municipal) and is in the building already for daily work.

NEVER in my life have I heard of a hand delivered ticket from the officer. Citations are only issued under the JP of the area. Works that way everywhere.

Best bet...go...plead guilty for some community service or a lower fine. Don't try to fight it because you already have it in your hand. Now the proof is there that you saw it (unless you want to lie under oath that you didn't....DONT do that....). The only fighting chance you have is against the equipment...not the officer. That's where most people screw up. If you really want to fight it, find out if the unit is certified. If so, when was it last certified by the department? Is there a log of tuning the unit daily? Things like that. Does it work? Sure, but not often. More often than going to court and calling the cop a liar though. That never works...

See I like your style. You atleast know that people need to be educated.

Agreed, Ask for all the files. Most likely they will fail to present said evidence and will throw the case out. Had this happen Twice when i fought tickets.
