That's what I thought. I was too poor back then to afford a nice car but I remember friends with 5.0 and IROCs (305 and 350 TPI) and the 5.0 guys were always beating the IROCs in the streets and strip racing. Man, the sound of a foxbody 5.0 with full exhaust system to me, is still one of the best sounding cars

You are correct. And the 5.0s responded to mods alot better than the Chevy 305 as well. That was a bad time for the Camaro. The Mustang had the 5.0 engine, which ended up being one of Ford's best V8 engines while the Camaro had the 305 which was one of the worst GM V8 engines.

Call me a mullet if you want, but back then I always preferred the look of the 3rd Gen Camaros over the Foxbody Mustangs though.

When you consider that back in the day HP was gross, not brake, that 2.0L I4 made more HP (290 bhp) and torque than many V8s did in the day. That's impressive

Actually, the LS3 is slightly wanting in the torque department, in order to move the freight of an SS. Another 50 lb/ft and the car would be something else
Forgive my ignorance but what 2.0L I4 had 340ft-lbs? Are you talking about the Turbo Upgrade GM offered for the turbo 2.0L in the Solstice etc?

I don't know, once F/I comes into the equation it muddies the waters when someone tries to say an engine is just a four cylinder. Yeah, it's just a little four banger alright, with just 20+ PSI of boost ha ha.

the past is great, but lets get back to today. And put the 2013 GT500, that fast bada$$ Ford, against the stock camaro, you know the fast one, the COPO and see who has the best drag times. And yes, I'm talking full stock COPO, I'm not talking about any adders or mods.

If you're going to throw the COPO out there, then its gotta go against one of the the 2013 Cobra Jet Mustangs. It would still be badass to watch though.

The GT500 is a street car that is intended to be driven on the street.

The COPO is a race car that cannot be driven on the street.

The COPO is a direct competitor to the Cobra Jet Mustang (as stated above) which is also a race car that cannot be driven on the street.

Good luck.

PS....the ZL1 and GT500 are direct competitors.

You just need to add an arch reactor. No Mustang can handle that kind of power.

Those only work on Audis as far as I know.

I rode in a brand new GT500. Holy shit it will walk all over a ZL1 all day any day. It's an amazing car. I love my Camaro but I think that is a fine piece of work there. everything all said and done they paid 66k out the door. It's loaded too.

I love my Camaro . This is my 4th . It is probably a better car than a Mustang and certainly better looking .
That being said ,I just ordered a Shelby GT500 . What can you say about a production car with 662 HP ? I never liked Mustangs ,ever , but I cant resist this one . The most powerful V-8 ever . It also has the stuff to get it all working together, SA . Adjustable launch control and lots more . With this car I'll be able to beat all Mustangs . I figure their isnt much chance of encountering another one of these at a red light .
I am keeping my beautiful Camaro forever .

As long as you love what you have and what your doing with it a little time here and there from the factory shouldn't matter. Just my .02 cents.

Bingo! I'd have no other car in the world right now...well the ZL1 I'd take but who wouldn't!

Well put Mike!

A GT will only be faster if the driver can get that garbage mt82 manual transmission into gear. Otherwise...
