2nd Gen Chevy volt to get a 2.0L Turbo?
All i gotta say is wow, that could be a cool thing if they do it right.
But the overall price of this vehicle needs to come down to the near $30k level or im sorry but the majority of people still wont care about this car. http://www.autoblog.com/2012/06/15/n...vor-of-2-0-tu/

Would kind of defeat the purpose the vehicle was built for wouldn't it?

The 1.4L in the current Volt is due to be replaced soon, but by the 2.0T? That's a very unfounded conclusion.

It has some mechanical linkage to assist the motor at high speeds/heavy acceleration. There was a big ruckus about it when the Volt first went into production.

Volt is at no greater risk of vehicle fire than the car you drive right now.

I thought the engine only powered the generator?

The engine can link up with with the electric motor to help drive the wheels. It never powers the wheels on its own.

There's no way that the Volt is getting a 2.0T.

Regardless, I don't see how a 2L turbo makes sense for the Volt. I'd expect a 3 cylinder in there before that.

The reason behind it is, according to the sales guy, that sufficient electricity needs to be generated to let the car drive the same when the battery eventually goes flat during a long drive... Kind of like a generator's fuel engine... make it smaller and you'll have less power, the more powerful the fuel engine, the more electricity you get... |
