To answer the OP.
We don't always give an explanation for a myriad of reasons. Probably non of which will seem acceptable. But we tend to blow through the clean up of the site... trying to get to as many of the issues we come across as possible. And don't always take the time to give an explanation. And FWIW. Sometimes the explanation just makes the reaction to closing a thread even worse. We get second guessed all the time, (not a complaint) and we kinda give up with trying to explain ourselves. Just seems to be less painful for everyone. Admittedly that is our perspective so it may not be perceived that way by others. In most cases the reason is (to the mods) obvious and we don't take the extra effort to explain it. To answer some of the other criticism in this thread. Moving threads is not in an effort to hide things. (Some will probably never believe that). We've gotten a very large number of complaints that the site is hard to search that threads are everywhere and we needed to do some house cleaning. So in an effort to make it easier to sort through all the information that is posted here, we spend a lot of time merging and moving threads so people who are looking for specific information can find it. Being a moderator here has pretty much taught me one thing. There is a flip side to every coin... What makes some happy will make others angry... With a site this size we do our best to make the site useful. Other than obvious rule breaking everything is subjective and hard to be consistent on... Sometimes it's not black and white. As far as the specific complaints, I'm not informed on it so I won't comment on it. But in general... we try to keep things organized. Don't hesitate to send us PM's asking questions. or report posts/threads that don't seem to be where they belong. We get a lot of PM's so please bear with us as we may not get back to you right away. We all have real lives and don't spend every waking hour glued to camaro5. I know I just gave a very general response. It's not an attempt at deflecting... I'm only trying to give a little insight. FWIW. Chris

But I can tell you this, posting a duplicate thread after the previous one was closed is kinda asking for trouble. And the Site owner/admin closed your thread, not a moderator. If anyone gets to do what they want here and not give an explanation it's him.

It really bothers me to read through a thread, long or short, and begin framing my intended comment as I read and then at the end, find it's closed. It would be great if there was some way to identify that the thread is closed at the beginning of the thread. One of the mods said they don't "always" tell you why it was closed, but I think it's more accurate to say they "never" tell you. For the most part, I think the mods do a good job, but sometimes it's pretty aggravating.

Look for this icon next to a thread Also inside the thread at the top and bottom you see this icon where the "Post Reply" button would normally be. ![]() It's hard to see sometimes and I've done the same thing. Some have asked us to just delete closed threads. but in most cases there is good information in the thread so we close it so you can still search for it... This is typical of vendor feed back threads. Usually they get closed when it gets out of hand, but we don't delete them as we want new members to find complaints and not hide them both good and bad. And now you know who closed it. So you can take it up with him.

I'll add to that after a run in with a member who made a lot of sense in our PM discussion over a closed thread... I generally send the OP, (thread originator) a pm as to why the thread was closed, but I'm certainly not going to do that for 20 or thirty members in a particular thread...
If it's questionable why a thread is being closed, I try to make a last post and close it, but often times it's brutally obvious as to why it is being closed... Language, personal attacks etc... If it isn't obvious to a member then the rules need to be re-read... As far as my personal ways, if a thread is salvageable, then I'll make the effort... but I'm not going to click on and edit tens or hundreds of posts for the benefit of one or two... If it's that bad, it'll possibly just disappear... rather than just be closed. Please know also, that when a thread that disappears to you guys, it may still be there but we have moderated until we have time to read it and determine if it's worth saving, or to get another opinion on the value of the thread... If it's worth saving, we may leave it moderated until we finish, and as Chris said, we all have lives away from Camaro5. Please remember, we have many members that are substantially younger then you might imagine, and we try to maintain this as a family oriented site.... Language, personal attacks etc, will make threads go away quickly... If someone offends you, report the post and let us handle it... Please and Thank You Robert

I was wondering some of this myself, for instance I put a thread for the Sturgis Camaro Rally at the end of the month up in the general to try and get as much visual on it as possible. ESPECIALLY to those that do not frequent the Mid west section of this forum… We are trying to get cars from around the nation and that's why I put it there.
If I would have wanted it just to go out to the mid west people I would have posted it there in the first place. But wait I already did that too... I completely understand about cleaning up the site and some thread do need to be closed… but sometimes (IMO) some things should be left alone ***EDIT**** was noticing there is no section for EVENTS….besides CAMARO5 fest in the general area…. I see the events log at the very bottom but honestly today was the first time I have see it LOL. Mods do you think it might be possible to add an events area in General Camaro Forums section ban coming in 3.2.1….. lol
