624? How's that even possible with a car supposedly making 662 at the crank? I've yet to hear an actual explanation as to why on a dyno that running in a lower gear reads lower numbers. What gear are these pulls in? Is the gearing along the lines of the GT, where it's done in 5th to achieve 1:1, or closer to the SS that's done in 4th?

Ummm... The Shelby IS a production car. Hennessey... Well they aren't even in the category of 3rd party up-fitter. It's an afterthought package much like a Supersnake (as already mentioned).

You can go to a Ford dealer and order a Shelby GT500 which will come with a standard Ford warranty just like any other Mustang. AFAIK, you can't do that with a Hennessey. And I am sure they aren't pumping out several thousand Hennessey Camaros a year, either. So no, the Hennessey is most definitely not even remotely close to the same thing as a Shelby.

The '13 GT 500 is a LOT faster than the ZL1...It will dominate it as many open-minded folks thought.

As much as GM likes to take credit for Ford developing the Boss and the '13 GT500, that simply isn't the case. GM still has no competitor to the Boss, therefore it wasn't developed in response to anything. Additionally, the ZL1 had nothing to do with the '13 GT500's development, either. Ford needed to bump up the GT500 because there wasn't enough differentiation between the Boss and the '12 GT500 in terms of performance. (A '12 Boss is nearly as fast in a straight line as the '12 GT500 was, for thousands less)

Personally, I think the new 5.0 and Boss really pushed Ford to improve the GT500. When the GT500 debuted in 2007, it had 200 more hp than the GT.
Pretty much. A new 5.0 isn't much slower than a '07-'09 GT500 was, the entire model lineup has just made a natural progression upwards.

It's fairly sad that they had to delete all of the ZL1 vs Mustang threads. I thought we were having a fairly civil discourse. It smacks of hurt feelings and poor sportsmanship, if you ask me, which is a shame because I thought most people in both camps were pretty cool about it.

60?? Youre being way too nice. This type of ingorant blabber is well known on car forums everywhere. I know that from experience, but honestly camaro5 is by far the worse ive experienced. Im sure theres worse out there, but ive yet to see it.

It's almost as if someone just wants the thread to slowly die off because it's gotten too big and would be impossible to delete without people noticing.....oh wait......oops.....forget I said anything.
Believe me nothing is too big to delete....

I moved it to the general section since it had become a GT500 praise thread... there was very little about the ZL1 in it other than the finer points that the Ford Fan Boys felt was worthy of noting that the Mustang could outperform....

I love competition, but this bashing is going to stop... Legitimate discussions about one vs the other fine...

I sit back and wonder how the people that bought a 60K car feel having all the trolls come in here and bash their purchase... Proclaiming to be a car guy and then bashing the other brand is a little childish...

Ford Fans should thank GM, Chevrolet, and the owners of the Camaro for the revival of the Camaro, which to all but those in denial is one of the biggest reasons Ford made a 650+ HP car...

They are both amazing cars.... Looks, features and all other items aside, I just prefer Camaro's over Mustangs...

the Boss 302 was in repsons to the M3 in reality and that is documented. So I guess you can thank BMW for the new GT500.

The whole benchmark for that car was teh M3's time around laguna seca. then it ended up lapping just as fast as the GT500 did a the time becasue the GT500 has issues at the track.

chevy's was not aming at the GT500 with ZL1 unlike many ford fans think. you don't go to germany and run the ring to compete with a 1/4 mile car. they were trying to make an M3 like balanced sports car. Same way the CTS-v went after the M5. ford does not publish the times right or wrong so that marketing scheme is not directed at ford as much.

Now the internet has naturally make it a gt500 vs ZL1 thing becaue mustang vs camaro is more natural but in reality they were both trying to up there handlling to compete with the german cars.

that is the true history here like it or not. It was not ford vs chevy.

Most people...??? Some were and are and will probably remain civil... As for the hurt feelings, is that a surprise when someone has laid out their hard earned money for a car and then trolls arrive in droves to slam and bad mouth it...

Most of the threads have not been deleted, they have been corralled into one or two big threads in the general section.... Many of these threads have quickly transformed into GT500 Praise threads... and this is Camaro5... Not mustangs are us or whatever...

Look at the newest members that just signed on this month and are running rampant around this forum praising all that is Ford... They're trolls, and they are ruining it for lots of folks... If/when they chase their little selves back over to their own regular sites, then things will return to a more normal footing around here... Until then, we will treat threads as we feel they need to be...

Transformers yuppies. How times have changed. We used to learn about cars in school and our dad's, uncles, neigbors, and friends' garages, and learn about other cars from fellow car nuts. Now, many seem to think they are suddenly transformed into a car person after watching the Transformer movies and buying BumbleBee in whatever shade.
