As a fellow C6Z owner I have to agree. I've already been enjoying the C6Z for years. The 2013 GT500 could run 10s on stock tires for all I really care, still won't replace the experience I've already had with the Z.

I'm just dying to get my ZL1 I was one of those who got skipped to 2013. I could always order a Shelby but I much rather have a ZL1.
HEY! We gained one....but we might lose a couple of vert guys :(

Okay I might just be blind, but what is the source of the 11.5 @ 125 mph?

So far, I can only find the 11.6 that MT did, followed by the heat soaked 11.8s by Evan Smith, and the low 12s.

Thanks in advance.

I know this site isn't dedicated to what the Ford guys think, but I believe we can all agree that there was a LOT of dishing out FROM the ZL1 crew/fans toward the Ford/GT500 crew. Now, admittedly, not everyone took it as well as they should have, but that doesn't take away from the fact that the perceived ego of this site, as well as others affiliated with GM products was off the charts.

Now, that the GT500 has outperformed the ZL1 in nearly every single MEASURABLE statistic, I think you're going to see a lot of revenge trash talking.

Either way, I know that to real enthusiasts both of these cars are absolutely awesome, and deserve to be treated with the highest level of respect by their owners/drivers.

I'm looking forward to a decent photo op with a clean ZL1.
Out performmed??? Ride? Skid Pad? No Automatic. Have to disagree on that one.

Strait line racing isnt for everyone.I like road racing and in my opinion the zl1 is a no frigging brainer. GM never dropped the ball. They did what they wanted and mission accomplished. For the ones second guessing Chevy just go buy a ford for cripe sakes we don't need you. Lol as soon as I can afford a factory race car I'll be getting a zl1.

I can state my opinion that the major and probably the most important reasons someone purchases a car like the Camaro or the Mustang is based on how it looks to them and how they feel when they drive it. So, like some others have said, it's whatever makes YOU feel good, nothing else matters.

To tie this in with 2ndCamaro79's OP, read the last paragraph of his post. 'nuff said.
Although I completely agree and this is in fact the case, it ends conversation. So, this point is ignored. If numbers are involved with ANY topic, an argument can take hold. The only real problem with debating this stuff is when it goes from fun/friendly debate to baseless claims and name-calling.

The automatic ZL1 eats the automatic GT500 up all day long.

Throwing quotes out there like "drivers race" and most SS drivers won't be able to drive their car and the GT will still be able to beat it on the same track. Come on guys, the difference in performance between the 2012 ZL1 and 2013 GT500 is as big a difference as the 2010 SS and GT. GM droped the ball on this one. Ford won this battle clearly. Everyone needs to accept it and move on. Hope for a better showing next round. I think most GM faithfull are just disappointed like I am because GM clearly made this car to beat the GT500 in all aspects of performance.

On another note everyone needs to stop pulling the road course card. Even if the ZL1 is a better road course car who cares, I know I don't. These are pony/muscle cars people. You want a good road course car look into a light, nimble, true sports car like the Vette. Not a heavy brute force muscle car like a Camaro or Mustang. Muscle cars should be very good at one thing, straight line performance. Everything else comes second. Ford clearly understands this and I tip my hat to them. They came to win and were not kidding around. GM should of had the same concept before stepping in to play this game. They just built a factory production muscle car that is capable of 10's. I think we need to show credit where credit is due and stop making biased childish excuses. Like I said some of you sound like they did back in 09.
VERY well said, sir. GM may have "dropped the ball" on this one in terms of losing the battle. But they still made a pretty sweet car.

A guy who seems to have inside info from Ford who is always solid with his information. BTW it's 11.5@127, with a best trap speed of 129. He also says the 609 RWHP was a middle road dyno #, with as high as 624 seen.

That sounds like the same kind of "mission accomplished" we got out of George W. Bush several years back. Do you really think GM "wanted" to have Ford announce a 650 HP GT500 RIGHT after they announced the 580 HP ZL1? ...and then deliver 662 HP and better it's times on the 1/4 mile? They made a great car, yes. But I doubt this is what they wanted.

I still can't understand why people think that GM dropped the ball with the ZL1. It's close enough to the performance of the GT500 that "most" people won't be able to tell the difference in the real world.

To me, where they dropped the was when they had the long QC hold and not making them more accessible to people that wanted to buy one. I hate to keep bringing this up but it's pretty bad when you have a car on order since December to turn around and get told that you were bumped. Then, I get a call from a Ford dealer that I had done business in the past and he ask me if I would like to order a GT500 at MSRP. They are shipping as we speak with no long QC hold and the average Joe has them already. Mine is going to be here by July.

This is where GM dropped the ball. I believe that while it seems they are a shade below the GT500 in performace that overall they have the best car. They just have a lousy system for people to buy them.

OMG who gives a rats @ss about the Shelby?. Last time I looked this was a Camaro site. I come here to discuss Camaros not blankety blank Shelbys. If I wanted a Shelby I'd buy one. I don't want a shelby. They could make 5000 hp, be dipped in gold and smaell like a field of roses and I'd still buy a CAMARO.
