I really can't under why all these ZL1 owners are upset. You should all be very happy to be able to own one of the greatest hot rods of all time.
I wonder how many Z06 guys hung themselves when the ZR1 came out. I would bet not many. |

Even as a diehard GM guy I can acknowledge that Ford just made the ZL1 look slow and unimpressive. Still would buy a ZL1 over a the Mustang any day. ZL1 is extremely cool looking.

I'll take that race any day and twice on Sunday.I'll give you this........a stock 2013 Ford GT500 is going to give a stock C6 Z06 (Z07 is a performance package for the Z06) a run for it's money in a drag race and to a Vmax run....662 HP will give you that. On a road race course with equally skilled drivers, stock for stock, the GT500 won't be even close enough to the Z06's rear bumper to read the license plate number....that's what 600 lbs of extra weight gives you. |

Sorry I beg to differ....not desperate at all....the point I was trying to make again was that GM pegged the ZL1 to the CURRENT gt500 so GM released what their horsepower numbers were going to be over a year ago. By GM doing this Ford now knew the figures and made damn sure it would have more....thats it. There is no desperation in my comments....just reality. And also again I think its great. This is isn't directed at you but some people on here love to point out the "facts." Well this is a fact too. It is also true that if GM does nothing to up the 2013 model with more power (which looks to be the case) then yes it will lose in the qtr mile/0-60 war of words. I would however like to see what happens on a track and what all the gt 500 people would say if it lost. Shouldn't be long now until we see those results as well. At the end of the day two awesome machines...

I don't see what the big deal is. Everyone knew what the results would be like long ago.
Mustang faster in a straight line, Camaro faster around corners. Mod accordingly for one to beat the other. |

And I don't see GM countering with a 715hp ZL1 for 2013, which is what they'd have to produce in order to just EQUAL the 2013 GT500's power/weight ratio. Let's be realistic, they came out with every bullet they had in their gun, that allowed them to arrive in the mid-$50K price range. GM could make more power (a la ZR1), but the mill would add alot more money to the car, and then they'd be spending boatloads of cash re-calibrating chassis and re-durability-testing a car that they just FINISHED spending all those development dollars on. |

Eh, I'd take a Z06 over a GT500 without even thinking twice. That's not to put down the GT500 at all. In fact, being a N/A type of person, I'd take a Z06 over a ZR1, and would have to think SERIOUSLY hard if given the choice between a Boss and a GT500 (would take the Boss over the ZL1).
To each their own....there really is more to personal preference than HP alone. |

Don't forget larger contact patches, better tire compound, and better suspension. GT500 will not touch a Z07 packaged Z.

No, that didn't include labor... I lucked-in to getting the install done for a feature article in MM&FF (coming up in August issue). That said, I can't imagine that it costs terribly much, as it goes so quickly.
That was why I was so "general" with my $$ figure. In fairness to Justin, don't take it too literally, but you should just give him a buzz and find out what the deal is. I don't know what you'd "do" with a "bigger one" quite honestly... I'm mounting some new hopefully-stickier Michelin PS2's later this week that will hopefully bring some sort of traction back into the picture. On my worn F1 Goodyears, I can absolutely ROAST the rear tires in 3rd gear just by giving the throttle a stab. It only hooks on good hot sun-soaked pavement. Hit a shadow, or play around at night, and only 4th gear will hold, and even it is a bit sketchy... I'm tellin' ya, at this 660 rwhp range, unless you run a purposeful drag tire, you're right at the limit of street-function. Where can you go to run from a flippin' 80mph roll?
