If the gt500 lost 10% of its weight (to be fair) it'd be 385#'s lighter. Take 11#'s off that since the camaro is 4120 which is shy of 4200 and you get a gt500 that's 3475#'s... Also pretty unrealistic but we can all hope.

I wanna see it but I'm gonna assume each model in the respective model lines will be 150#'s lighter on mustangs and about 250#'s lighter on Camaro's.

3600# ss
3325# v6

3700# gt500
3450# gt
3250# v6
Hate to say this but the Camaro will be lighter than your thinking probably around the 3,400 area. We will see though.

Don't hate to say that, I'd love if you're right! I wanna see muscle cars jump back up to the same level of respect they had in the 60's and 70's as the top dogs that were unstoppable. If its a camaro or stang that gets this overweight issue under control, I won't care one way or the other as the counter parts will follow suit

Yep im right there with you! I bet that the 6th Gen Camaro & Stang both will lose significant weight and will weigh very very close to one another. After all the ATS is weighing in around 3,400 the next Camaro cant be far off from that depending on the engine weight ect probably will be around 3,450 to 3,500 for an SS maybe less we will see. Since GM has been criticized so much on the weight of the Camaro I wouldnt be surprised if they had a very very light Camaro for this next go around. The other big surprise will be IF the new Cuda from SRT is as light weight or not as the Camaro and Mustang because they are saying it will be significantly lighter than the current Challenger. I think this next gen Muscle/Pony war will be more competitive than this one judging how little weight will probably play an advantage for Ford this next time.

As for the rest of your comment.......

I live in Arizona where my home track altitude is 1500 ASL (not accounting for DA) .

I don't drive a Camaro or Mustang......I drive a near stock C6 Z06 Corvette.
I'm on the C6 Z06 Fast List in the bolt-on category....and yet I have no bolt-on's other than a CAI....even the stock tune. I won't bore you with the details as it's not relevent to the two cars we are talking about now, but I think I have the drag racing thing down OK

That being said, I don't believe for one second that countless 2010+ owners have gotten anywhere near 10's with tires...especially on their first tries AND stock to boot.

The best I've seen experienced drivers with stock cars run is upper 11's on drag radials, but that doesn't mean that other owners at different tracks across the Country haven't gone faster.

I can't wait for the new 2013 GT500's to start hitting the track.....I'd love to run one.

im not defending anything. im not pushing the gt500 wither. i like the LSA first. overall performance reliability. what i do, is stand up for my observations.

2) I'd argue that every car made now has 'nannies' as the government made stability control and all the other basic 'nannies' mandatory.

3) I also understand that you are on the C5 forum, so your opinions demonstrate the feelings of many others on here, but man....you have done NOTHING but nit pick, bash, and demean the car for as long as I can remember reading your posts.

4) If the GT500 came out without any of the stuff you're bashing, you'd likely proceed to call the car 'uncivilized' or 'ill-mannered'

5) We get it, it's a lose-lose no matter what the car does, but take a second to step back and think about the stuff you type.
1) It is a sad state of affairs when interlopers from Brand F feel compelled to invade a private site dedicated to the enjoyment of a DIRECT COMPETITOR, wave their flag and spread spurious undocumented drivel and fanboy fantasies about a ridiculously overpowered, underengineered weapon that is band-aided by electronics to perform in a civilized manner for 90% of its buyers...while, apparently, the other 10% will become garage (cave?) dwellers. Nannies, BTW, is a widely used term to describe electronic auto aids...right?

2) Correct...except, in most areas of performance driving, true "drivers" spurn them. Of course the video gamers of today know nothing else...but a GT500 ain't a "game", pal. It's a grossly overpowered weapon that, without said nannies, would be rendered to the scrapheap by the insurance industry. This is NOT a Formula 1-derived clone, but a clown...

3) See 1) above and, BTW, if you are finally unable to properly defend this contraption (the result of non-perscribed pharmacology), you're not much of a debater. You see, in debates you ought to be able to defend EITHER side, successfully. Invite me over to the SVT Forum and perhaps I'll share an idea or two of where the Camaro may enjoy a shortcoming or two...

4) See 2) above... Without nannies, she'd be laughed of the street-road-track...56/44, 662 hp, 265/285s...JOKE! Whoever came up with this should write Jay Leno's monologue...(sorry, Jay!)

5) A second? Hell, I thought about this for nearly a minute...

When all else fails, attack the person. Being an Election Year, you have a bright-shiny near-term future...full of venom, but hollow of facts, just like the real-world test results will show for this 5.77 lb/hp heap...

Wanna REAL 'Stang? Put a Coyote'd 5.8 mit NO blower, makin' 500+ hp, and slap that tire tickler is a BOSS finally deserving of that name...and then put Parnelli behind the wheel to show you gameboy Dearborn dandies how to drive a car, "unaided"...

Back to the Barcalounger...

I've been around drag strips and high performance cars all my life and have see a lot of ribbing from competition but really, if you guys were all standing around a bar having this conversation would you all still be talking like that? Oh it just hit me, I'm not used to hearing all the bs that is being spewed here from both sides because we would just go race or fight.
Either one was a lot more fun than bench racing.
I will say though, I've stuck with reading this thread because it amazes me just how long people will cling to an argument that they can not win.

Okay.

I'm not going to even bother. Yes, you're a wonderful debater, you use big words to create the intellectual persona you are looking for.

You DO at least succeed in that. You're well spoken, elaborate, and clear in making your point.

What you're clearly refusing to see is that I don't feel it necessary to come here waiving an F flag around in defense like someone with an agenda. I came here to learn about the ZL1 so I had something to compare my new car to. I guess that's not allowed.

And you're always more than welcome to svtp I'm sure. And as long as you stayed civil, I'm sure you could have endless productive debates. But not with your current tone.

I've not been on this site long, but I've done more than my fair share to remain civil and respectful.

Chevy made a lot of noise at the car shows, made a super nice film at the track about the ZL1. Promised this and that. Made it seem like this was the Shelby killer. Posted RING times. Said the car will run under 12sec 1/4 miles.

The car has yet to run under 12secs BONE STOCK. Even if it has its only a HERO run. They are MID 12 sec cars on average. As for as the ring times, i dont think they have to worry about not living up to those as i dont see anyone from here driving to germany and see what it does. But im willing to bet if someone did they wouldnt be able to match chevys CLAIMS just like no one has been able to MATCH their claims in the 1/4 mile...
