Like SSooch this is my opinion......people always tend to lump Riced up Cars into one category and it is mainly the import crowd...That has always intrigued me and for this reason......

Mostly younger generation people are into import cars ( Ricers) and I actually have alot of friend who are into that genre of cars...Of course like most I asked WHY would you want a HONDA Civic........

I was quite amazed at the repsonse I got......... 9 times out of 10 the reason was FINANCES ( MONEY) Most 'Ricers" are younger as I said earlier and they can't afford a new Camaro, Mustang, Challanger and then afford to modify it till their hearts content...simply does not add up financially.

I would be willing to bet that most Camaro Owners on this site are in their middle ages, more financially stable and pretty much set up in life with houses, jobs, etc.......

Import folks love cars, the surely love the new muscle cars but cant afford them....so as a car enthusiast what are they to do....Well they go the cheap route...imports because they are cheap to but, cheap to mod, cheap to fix when they break, they make BIG power and have very little weight....But isn't the point of having younger people into cars instead of other things?

I have seen a 750 FWHP Civic that will take most cars on this site....it is boosted, nitrous and all the toys....While Honda Civics, Evo's etc... are not my cup of tea I think it is preety cool at the power they make and that these "kids" are " CAR" enthusiast instead of some pink kids running around acting like King Thug.

Some will say they act like idiots...granted there are some in the crowd who act like idiots but as with any crowd you will always have some that make the group look bad. My 15 soon to be 16 yr old son would absolutely love to have my SS....he will be getting a Honda, a USED Very Used Honda...If he chooses to add power modifiers to it then it will be on his dime but it is something that he can afford and he will definitely learn about cars at a much cheaper clip than a new or even old muscle car.

Of course this is just my opinion and mods are in the eye of the beholder...Some modded Camaros look like crap but the owner likes them so who am I to say what they should look like.

Kids ( and Adults) go through fads, this we all know but I, for one, are glad they are into cars instaed of other things that they could be into. JMHO
So very true. The difference for us was that we could get muscle cars for cheap back in the day. I paid $400 for a 69 chevelle 396 4 speed. Kids don't have choices like that these days.

Very good post.

I second Nick's thoughts.

Based on your opinion Ssooch, Would you say that Dangeruss' car is rice?

Sidemarkers, big wheels, afterburner taillights, illuminated bowtie emblem, led side mirrors, engine covers, leather steering wheel, aftermarket dome/trunk lights and footwell lighting?

He's also got a forged lsx 427 with a blower and nitrous that may or may not be making 1000+ rwhp.

The Cobalt SS/SC used to hold the record until the SS/TC came out and destroyed it.

I also have my own experience with this... I have a Cobalt SS/SC, that I removed the wing off of (I have to admit, it's UGLY) but the car handles amazingly different... and not for the better... I can acutely feel the back end move around a lot more when running around my local Road Course.

and in case you all don't know what wing i'm talking about:
(that's my car before I removed the wing)

Back on Topic... I have to agree MOST aftermarket high rise wings are ugly... but if the owner likes it.. more power to them... I like to compare High Rise Spoilers to Frow Hawks / Mullets, They are Super ugly, but get you noticed in a crowed.
lol, you are correct sir. i generalized too much.

For example: The wing on the mustang shouldn't be considered rice since the wings serves to apply downforce on a RWD car. It would be considered rice if it was on a civic since it really serves no purpose and makes the car worse.

Why would an aftermarket 3" pipe be considered rice on an asian car but not on a camaro? They both don't have any performance increase and only serves to create a sound that the driver likes. Heck, I've seen spoilers on here that looks like it would create more drag than actually spoiling wind.

There's a lot on here that puts on giant wheels on their car that makes the car worse than stock in handling and accel... but people don't call that rice. Yet I'm sure if I were to post a civic si on here with similar wheels, it would be bashed on left and right.

Same for lights. AAC creates respected products on here, but I remember people going on about how "rice" a car was with all these various lights when Fast and the Furious was out.
Yes.

Rice is:

Race
Inspirced
Cosmetic
Enhancements

People do this to camaros all the time unfortunately. Bigger spoilers when there's no need. Ridiculous wheels (hey, some DO look good, but some are just ridiculous and slow the car down). Many of the drop-spring setups that might be stiffer, but pound you more and do nothing significant for the weight transfer (sway), the list goes on and on of course. There are good mods out there, but go and look at any of these forums and you'll see plenty of "rice". Is it all bad? Probably not. If it is non-functional though, I'd label it as rice.

Me personally I would say Russ's car is BAD ASSED.

I didn't mean to go on in th eother post but it just seemed to me that alot of people get down on the " Ricer" crowd....They are just like many of us...they love cars and love to go fast...because they like mustard instead of ketchup doesn't mean they are bad.

If a person pays for his/her mods who am I to tell them what THEY should like...ain't that kinda the point .....making it your own?

Agree with John for the most part.

But it's still fun to tease them.

With me it's a rivalry tease though. As I know that my blown SS can be beat by one.

I will say this though....... For years going to NOPI and other import shows (our good friends were all in to those cars) I couldn't really responsibly afford the type of car I have now so I just did without. Even though I could afford the ones that were in those shows and afford to start fixing a few up and had a few deals on them, I still couldn't bring myself to own one. NOT downing on those who do. (cept those little ****ers who rev and want to race)

We'd go to those shows with 9 thousand cars in them and I'd always run to the section that had 20 or so Domestic cars. See the one or two Camaros and Mustangs they had. hahaha

I used to joke that I had more fun in the parking lot because I'd see a few muscle cars out there.

We went every year. I went because it was fun at night and Bonnie did the contests and we hung with our friends and supported their hobby.

LMAO...Oh dont think I don't poke fun at my friends....... I actually beat them street light to street light....they don't have time to build boost BUT When they do it is OVER...

There is no replacement for displacement......type thing.

I guess I am just OLD cause I think anyone who is into cars is cool in my book even though we are all loyal to our brand
