I didn't see the owner (young man) was in it til he was getting out..I said nice car sir, I have a Camaro too. He said, thank you then asked me in what color and if V6 or V8. I said, its IOM color and a V8. He said NICE! Then he said, yeah, I am sure you can tell mine is a V6 (I can tell he started to feel uncomfy about the SS badging)...I interrupted him right there. I told him, man, your car looks awesome no matter what you want to put on it. Make it as you like. I gave him my number in case he has questions about Camaros or wanna hang out. Told him about this site too.
What's fascinating for me is trying to figure out what benefits do people actually get from putting a fake badge on their car. It clearly doesn't make it look any better. The answer is clear to me: "because I want to make people believe in a lie". I just want someone to admit it and stop justifying it with irrelevant BS like "it's not hurting anybody". Just admit it: because you want people to believe something that's not true.

It's equivalent to a sargeant putting on lieutenant stripes. Why would someone do that? It's to make people believe in a lie. There's no other explanation for it, and the more people try to justify it, the more I am inclined to keep going on about it until they admit the truth.

That's a bit myopic, isn't it? Maybe there's another philosophy: "They do it to piss people off that believe you can't put non-factory emblems on your car if you want without having to check to see if it's ok with them first." Because it does piss people off that have thin skin and no higher piroity problems in their life; this thread lends itself to support that theory.

Bingo.

It's really the intent behind what they doing that I find suspect. Personally, I think it's rather pathetic that they're attempting to make people believe they have a car that they actually don't. There's no shame in driving a V6 Mustang or Camaro, so why try to deceive people into thinking you're driving an SS, GT, Shelby, etc.?

And to the guy who chastized us for "anguishing" over these cars? Please. Don't be so overdramatic. I don't see anyone here losing sleep over this or anguishing over this. I couldn't care any less what you do with your car, you're the one making the payments on it. That's not going to stop me from laughing at you behind your back though.

Fake does not necessary mean badging. Had a Challenger in front of me at a traffic signal. Factory looking exhaust tips gave the impression it was an RT. But as he pulled away, exhaust sound was clearly from a V6.

I agree, except I laugh directly at them. Theres a guy around here with a white 1ss. Has it badged as a z28. He even has his headrest done with z28. I was at a show with him and he took a trophy for top 50. When they announced his name and car, they said 2010 z28. And these were car show judges!! There is no such thing as a 2010 z28. And I yelled that out when they announced it! He has a pic with him winning an award at the GM Nationals at Carlisle as well. All under the z28 premise. What a loser.

I get some of what you guys are saying though but these days, when I see a car wearing badges for a higher trim car (Camaro V6 wearing SS or Mustang V6 wearing GT or 5.0 badges), I just take the "humble" side and assume the owner is financially limited and can't afford the real thing so he is doing for himself what he can afford to at least make the car look (to him) like he has the real one. If one notices his switcharoo, oh well. But if it passes for some, then he is happy. Who are we to stand in the way of someone's happiness? hehehehe
Im with ya!

Guy's the thing we enjoyed (back in the day) was debadging the car and building sleepers. Vega's with 350's Nova's with a 396, And my favorite a Chevelle station wagon with a 502. We didn't need no badges.

Just an FYI, the new Challengers with the Pentastar V6 do have dual exhaust tips stock and they do look similar to the R/T exhaust.

Hmm. Rationale does not compute. He WON, therefore he's a loser? Poser with a trophy perhaps, but apparently not a loser.

Way off subject, but why would a sergeant demean himself by pretending to be a lieutenant?

Oh, and FYI....lieutenants don't wear stripes...they have a single bar.

Carry on, that is all.

He won an award. Lots of losers and ash*les win awards. He's a loser for winning an award for a fake car. But then again,he didn't win the award, the car did. UPDATE: Just got off phone with someone who saw the award and sort of knows him. He won for furthest drive to the show. Friend said he put down the wrong town on his entry form! yep....loser.

Thanks, I think this was an older Challenger. Exhaust was loud and wasn't stock sounding.
