I caught my share of badgering from the poser police. My FFR (blue car in my sig) looked, sounded, and had all the original Shelby Cobra badging and people used to come up and ask if it was original or fake. I always said it was a "replica" and some would frown or give condescending comments such as "you can't afford the original eh?" My answer was, Nope, I don't have $500k+ to spend on one car so I collected all the loose change from under my couches and came up with $70k to spend on all new parts to build this one. The strangest thing was almost all of the jerks who had negative comments had a lesser car. Envy does breed hate.

I just remembered, I was walking back to my car the other day and walked by a green Camaro V6..must have been a 2LT/RS, it had leather, etc. but it had SS badging on the sides, trunk, and front grill. I didn't see the owner (young man) was in it til he was getting out..I said nice car sir, I have a Camaro too. He said, thank you then asked me in what color and if V6 or V8. I said, its IOM color and a V8. He said NICE! Then he said, yeah, I am sure you can tell mine is a V6 (I can tell he started to feel uncomfy about the SS badging)...I interrupted him right there. I told him, man, your car looks awesome no matter what you want to put on it. Make it as you like. I gave him my number in case he has questions about Camaros or wanna hang out. Told him about this site too.

Replicas and clones are a different story and accepted by most. As long as theyre not misrepresented at if for sale. When they asked if it was fake you should have told him, yeah, its a matchbox. Lol.

It is usually the ones with less that want to be critical. I once had some girl walking down the street comment about my charger rt while i was waiting for my daughter to come out of school. Said theyre crap and the only real chargers were the old ones. I said "yeah, but i' m not the one walking, am i bitch?"

Like the guy who posted this picture of his car... which I quickly re-posted for him! LOL!

It looks like poser is putting race gas in the V6 Mustang at the pumps at Infineon Raceway.

WOW! That is garish! At least the Fauxdi badge is understated and classy...

Close doesn't make the real McCoy. Cosmetic upgrades are fine and are a totally different story, but once you place a badge on anything that is not bonafide, or make the claim that something is something else, it is straight up poserism. People are free to do what they want, but people are also free to call bulls#*@ when they see it.

Ive always wanted to build one of those Civic hatches that are turboed and run 10s. Then I want to buy 3 GTR badges, one for the back and two for the sides. Then put all sorts of other ridiculous badges and ricer crap on it, like lightweight steelies with cheap auto zone hub caps.

It would be SOOO fun to trick all the people who I could get to race me.

maybe there are many levels of Poserism?

I get some of what you guys are saying though but these days, when I see a car wearing badges for a higher trim car (Camaro V6 wearing SS or Mustang V6 wearing GT or 5.0 badges), I just take the "humble" side and assume the owner is financially limited and can't afford the real thing so he is doing for himself what he can afford to at least make the car look (to him) like he has the real one. If one notices his switcharoo, oh well. But if it passes for some, then he is happy. Who are we to stand in the way of someone's happiness? hehehehe

Back in the 90's I use to see a ton of fake SS, z/28, ect badges on classic Chevys like Camaro's, Chevelle's, Nova's, etc. even the other manufacturers. Even today it seems to be all the rage to put fake badges on these clones/ tributes that go to Barrett Jackson and such. Its been going on FOREVER and doesn't bother me.

I never did it to my 67 Camaro since I was lucky to have it completely de-badged by the previous owner, but if I ever get around to putting a big block into my 72 Monte Carlo I might entertain the idea of putting the factory SS454 badges on the lower rocker and trunk moldings to set it apart for all the small block car's and let people know that this Monte is packing heat. I have my heart set on the fuel injected Edelbrock/ Mussi 555 so it may take a while, but it would be cool if made custom SS555 badges that look like stock.

I was just thinking...would I anger a lot of people if I took the snake off my GT500 and put it on the SS and take the SS badges and put them on the GT500? I'd probably get shot.

Yes - but you know the difference. You know you're a faker.
