idk why everyone is giving him a hard time about wanting a V-8. so what, let him get a v_8 if that's what he wants. i'm the same way. i wont drive a camaro if it doesn't have a V-8. not saying there's anything wrong with a v-6, i just don't want one and that's what i'm getting from the OP. if you want to fix the GTs HP problem, get a Vortec or Procharger. just bothers me how all you guys are getting so defensive about him not wanting a V-6.
sorry for this minor rant

Your manhood will be just fine whether you're in a V6 or not. Comments such as that is what causes people to flame you.Quote:
I agree. While GM has done an excellent job with the V6 Camaro I wouldn't own one either, but that's just my preference. I'm not bashing on the V6, but it's not for me. If I had to settle for a six then there are other options I'd consider.

The OP stated he wants a V8 so it is safe to assume he wants performance but can't afford a new SS and doesn't want the V6 Camaro. To me, his option of getting a 4.6 Mustang GT fits his desire for performance for what he can afford at this point. There is a ton of after-market performance support for the Mustang and stock, it is already faster than a new Camaro V6. Noobs think because the Camaro V6 has 314hp and the GT has 300hp, the Camaro is faster.
Stock for stock, Power to weight ratio plus TQ, the GT is faster, period. The Camaro is prettier comments are garbage...he is not looking for a pretty car, he wants a V8. Besides, "pretty" depends on who you are asking. At the Mustang sites, the Camaro looks like crap..but that's their opinion, not fact.

If the 5th gens are out of your reach price wise, I would say keep your current z28. Trading that for an '05 GT would be a downgrade IMO. Or, as some stated, look for a GTO. I've seen them for around $16-$17k

The gto dont really attract me. My camaro is at 152k with leaking oil and a few other problems. It's time for a change and i'm not gonna hang on to this car for the next 5years until I can afford a 5th gen. Also not a downgrade. Better rear end. Newer body style. Maybe only 30k and cheap aftermarket parts. You find that a downgrade?

Don't let anyone talk u into a v6 if it's not what u want. I was thinking about a used GT also coz I wasn't sure I wanted shell out for an SS. I also considered an ls1 car as well as a G8. Just something about a V8. The torque, sound and presence. plus I always like getting the faster model of a car. Even if its slower than the slow model of a different car. If that makes sense

The only Mustang I would spend money on would be a 69 fastback or one of the new 2012 Shelbys... but If I had the money for one of those I would buy something Chevy anyways, just my preference. To the OP, all I ever was trying to get at was to experience the V6 before dismissing it. Have fun whatever your decision is.

If you're having mechanical trouble and need a daily driver, then yes, go for the GT. But let me ask you this, is two doors a must? You can probably find chargers, magnums, and 300Cs with the 5.7 hemi in that same price range from '05-'07. Maybe even for a little more get a 6.1 SRT, 425 hp/ 425 torque. The V8 challengers from '08 seem to still be going for $30k + though. |
