Well ... I just went to Chevrolet.com/volt:

Starting MSRP: $39,145 + $850 destination

Checking every single option box (which includes 2 car covers) adds around $5,800. So the highest MSRP possible is still less than $45,000. If a dealer is charging $47k ... they're trying to gouge customers.

Doesn't the Volt come with a $7,000 tax credit or something also?

Yes the Volt uses no gasoline for the first 40 miles. That's about a $4 savings in gas if a Cruze uses one gallon during the same first 40 miles.
If you drove a Volt everyday for one year , you would save $1460 in gas annually with the Volt.
It would take 14 years of Volt driving to break even with the extra $20,000 the Volt costs over a Cruze.
Volt economics does not pencil out yet.
If Chevy sold $20,000 Volts, GM would sell a bazillion of them.

plus you have the cost of charging it for 12 hours every night just to get your 30-36 miles of electric use

I just built one with every option ,but without any dealer installed accessories.

And the price was $46,165.00. Add dealer installed goodies and the price could easily be over 47 grand.

Weak argument dude...I love you man but nobody is buying the volt.

Economically you will not save because if you wanted that your buy the cruze and get good mpg for half the price. It would take many many years for the volt to finally become a cheaper alternative to the volt.

So you take out saving gas money and your left with a car that isn't a luxury car isnt a performance car and doesn't really look good.

And very few people would make a car purchase based on " saving" the environment.

I understand GM has to have a car to compete with the other green cars and bring down that fuel consumption government number average.

But let's be real and I know you can't cuz you work for the company but be real homie

Fen doesn't work for GM. Last I checked, he was a student and has a part time job driving city busses. He is as a moderator on GMInsideNews, but that site is independantly owned and is as free from GM as we are here at Camaro5. Its not like ChevroletVoltage.com which is owned & operated by GM

I'm not sure what I missed. But I guess I did miss something. Regardless though ... the main point was that the MSRP on the Volt starts under 40k, which it does

Are you incapable of reading this entire thread? I already stated everything you just did. That being said, Volt actually performs fairly well for an EV (something that everyone comments about with their first test drive), is fairly well appointed inside even without options, and looks are completely subjective.

However, the point I am trying to make is this: IF YOU ARE IN THE MARKET FOR AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE, the Volt is your best option, $40k price tag be damned.

I cannot believe how many grown men here are apparently completely incapable of getting that through their heads. Nobody is suggesting that we should all trade in our current cars for Volts. That being said, if you ARE interested in an electric car, which the majority of this site will not be, then you would be best off with a Volt.

By the way, "nobody is buying the Volt" is a ludicrous statement. 6000+ people beg to differ.

Yeah and out of the 50 that are sitting on lots in my area, none of them are under 40k. That's the same thing BMW and companies like them do. They have cars that they list as starting at one price ,but finding one on a lot at that price almost never happens. Face it, the Volt is not worth it. Chevy cut their own throats by building the Cruze eco. The Volt is just a novelty car for the rich just like corvettes and BMW's.

That's how every new technology starts out. How do you think you're on this forum right now? Some rich people bought these newfangled things called home computers, funding the companies' efforts to make cheaper, more affordable versions.
