So how do you explain TU saying "no" to continuing the game when TAMU asked? Think about it from the A&M side....SEC schedule AND Texas every year? Most years that would be a great strength of schedule.

WTF does Texas have against playing ANY SEC team? They don't want to play Arkansas or LSU, two geographic and recruiting rivals. Texas has a serious bug up it's ass when comes to even talking about the SEC.

"The Texas-Texas A&M rivalry appears to be over.

Or, at the very least, suspended:

Texas athletics director DeLoss Dodds sent an email to his counterpart Bill Byrne at Texas A&M to let him know that Texas' nonconference schedule was full through 2018.

"In my e-mail to Bill Byrne, I wrote that we were not in a position now to look at future football scheduling," Dodds said. "We're scheduled out with nonconference games through 2018 and our Big 12 schedule is not yet settled. What we have right now is a full schedule but if any future options are available, the decision will not be made by just one person."

Texas A&M will start competing in the Southeastern Conference in 2012.

Even with that move, Byrne told the Houston Chronicle that Texas A&M has always been open to continuing the 117-year-old rivalry with Texas. But Byrne told the paper that door had been closed by Dodds when he told him Texas' nonconference schedule was full through 2018.

Texas had publicly been noncommittal when it came to continuing the tradition of playing Texas A&M on the traditional Thanksgiving date. Other schools, such as Notre Dame, have been floated as possible replacements for Texas A&M.

The last scheduled meeting between Texas and Texas A&M is set for Nov. 24 in College Station."

The poor ATM ask for all this and can do "no" wrong! They VOLUNTARILY leave a conference that allows them to compete directly for league titles with their biggest rival, and it's UT's fault they're not playing anymore. That's fine, the Big 12's already replaced them with a team that's actually been to a BCS bowl recently. See ya later, bye. Maybe ATM and Vandi can play on Thanksgiving...."Turkey Bowl" for last place in the SEC!!

Actually its the SEC not wanting to speak to us because of the LHN.
It was confirmed we were not asked to Join the SEC only A&M and OU.
OU knew it was best for them to go WEST and join the pac as it was the best way for them to get where they want to be.

Only one reason A&M was asked to to to the SEC.
ACADEMICS
The SEC's website had the video of the SEC inviting A&M. They spoke 3 minutes out of the 5 about how A&M will bring very much improved Academic levels to the SEC. OH and the ability to put up a few wins here and there. The SEC could very much use A&M's academics. Besides Vandy and one other they dont exactlly have high athletic Academics.

Oh and by the way there is talk about Texas playing Bama again in the future I read that on future scheduling. The same goes for a possible home and home USC and Michigan Game.

Texas just said no to A&M so they have to travel more and eat there grapes for leaving. Yall want to travel then you will travel more.
Besides from what they are saying down the Road UT is looking to replace that game with a higher Tv rating school.
Texas vs A&m only appeals to TX Tv shows it.

Lets wait and see when Tannehill ( excuse the spelling ) graduates we will see what they are like with out there leader. ( hard loss for any team )
A&M has a Great bunch of kids who have a Great team work thing going right now....kind of like we had a few years ago.

If anyone knows about rebuilding its the Ag's. I have seen it before the Mack brown Era however right now the Texas fans are getting a taste of Reality. Last year we had all young players this year when they would normally be seasoned we switch all coaches and everything on them so its like we started over.

Our 4 and 5 star athletes are making the plays here and there but our young line isnt blocking at its best yet and our new QB doesnt have the time and still has his freshman moments im stuttering and not as quick on his decisions.

Growing Pains Hurt for sure

I dont blame the Ag fans for taking there jabs right now while Texas is going through growing pains. ITs what you do when you have a rival lol You catch the other down and give them hell.

I dont do that because I dont like eating Crow. I have won before and know I will again lol

What do you guys think about this...

Thanksgiving week is traditionally college football's Rivalry Week so I can see the RRR being moved to that week as probably the most logical choice for Texas since OU typically plays OSU the following week. A&M is then left in a tough spot because that week is the LSU/Arkansas game which would have been the logical choice for A&M.

If UT wants a higher rated school for national exposure like ND, then the problem there is that is the week ND plays USC or Stanford in alternating years.

Ponyman, while it's funny, Vandy has a OOC game that week (this year it's Wake Forest) so that might actually happen.

If the Texas/A&M rivalry can't continue, and Mizzou is accepted to the SEC I would like to see UT/OU, Mizzou/Arky, A&M/LSU that week personally.

That brings up the point that A&M was accepted into the SEC because of Academics AND it opens the Texas market to the SEC. They only wanted OU so they could get into the OK market. If it was only about academics, they would take Mizzou, but apparently right now they don't have the votes even though Mizzou is an AAU school.

Just thinking out loud.

Mr. "D", we do not want to bring up Academics and NCAA Football in the same sentences. When the SWC and the Big8 came together in 1996 it was sad how low the Big8 had set it's academic levels for it's athletic programs. SWC schools demanded the level be raised before they joined. Why do you think Nebraska's program tanked?

A&M has only been a member of the AAU since 2001 and going to the SEC does not help. Like I have said in the past...if a "Blue-Chip" player out of Texas wants to go to the SEC, 9 out 10 times A&M is not going to be his first, second, or third pick. And "YES", A&M has been used by the "SEC because of Academics AND it opens the Texas market to the SEC". Maybe being UT's little stepbrother was not so bad.....but now A&M is going to be "PIMPED" by the $EC.

The RRR is played during the state fair. The state fair wants that game because of what it brings to the table as well. Sitting in the crowd smelling Freshly cooked Fletchers Corn dogs and the sugar on top of freshly browned funnel cakes is the state fair. Hearing Big Tex give the Final score and seeing the ferris wheel peak over the top of the stadium. You cant have that in November.

Yeah maybe it will get them into the Texas market more meaning SEC but you know what ? They already do come through and get people for instance look at TENN and Arkansas. Yeah a few will go to the SEC but most will listen to mom and dad and stay closer and go to OU/State or UT or now TCU.

You mention by Texas not playing A&M yearly that leaves them in a tough spot huh? Boo hoo hoo we feel for A&M Not. You notice no one around the state of Texas or even Oklahoma wants to play A&M ! Everyone is saying we want to beat them and send them on there way why?
4 months before all of this happened ( A&M leaving ) everyone signed a contract for TV appearances. Now that A&M just got up and left a short time after they agreed every remaining school has to pay for that. A&M isnt leaving because of the mightly longhorn network they are leaving for more $$$$$$$$$$. And everyone calls Texas greedy lol everyone is Greedy its all about $$$$$$$$$$$. ITs not about the kids. Its athletic directors making money and kids having fun and hoping for a chance at the NFL.

UT is a marketing powerhouse down in the state Capital with business men everywhere A&M is down in the good ol Texas hillcountry beautiful as ever with the southern hospitality they are just now catching on.
I personally enjoy cruising to the UT/A&M game in collie station its a nice drive.

My point this is not just Greedy Texas everyone is Greedy.
People hate us because over the last decade 11-1 and 10-2 seasons have been the norm and that pi$$E$ people off.

Maybe after a few years we can once again play one another imagine the hype to that game !!!!!!!!

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ its what runs the world.

CHA CHING $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ amazing how money will make someone get up and walk huh lol The 12thman foundation will have to step in and help folks travel each week to games like parents because in this economy no one can afford to travel that much. Yes TCU fans did it but thats TCU fans people who are used to paying $40K a year to go to school they have $$$$$$$$.

When I graduted from UT in '09, I kinda felt that the A&M UT rivalry was dying and getting over with.... for the past few years it appeared that Students were more stoked over the OU vs UT Cotton bowl game. At least OU presented a challenge (flame suit on) lol

I laugh every time I hear an Aggie say that it's Texas' fault that the rivalry game is ending.

Here's the timeline:
Texas asks if anyone in the Big XII wants to get in on a television network.
Everyone says, "No Thanks" (including the Aggies)
Texas goes ahead with a network deal
A&M leaves Big XII to go to SEC
A&M asks Texas if the rivalry game is going to continue
Texas says, "Bite me."

Imagine a group of roommates. One says, "Hey, wanna all chip in and buy a new TV?" and everyone says no. So, he goes and buys a new TV anyway, but puts it in his room instead of the living room. And then the mooch roommate starts complaining that he doesn't get to watch football on the new TV on the weekends.

A&M left the Big XII. For them to blame Texas for the rivalry game ending is purely Aggie logic. Why should Texas, or any other Big XII school/team, bend over backwards to schedule the Aggies for future non-conference games? If nostalgia is the only legitimate reason, you're going to have a hard time selling that. And since college football is all about $$$, why would any Big XII team want to give away free revenue to a team that left the conference in search of more money for itself?
