A&M can go be an Arkansas and South Carolina. I guess the SEC needed another mid team. Just good enough the top teams can say they beat a credible team but still bad enough they don't have to worry most times.

Do you think that A&M going to the SEC will give any of the other SEC schools an "in" on Texas high school football recruiting?
![]() I know the majority of the Big XII teams recruit a lot of Texas high school players, but I'm curious to see if the Aggies going to the SEC will have any kind of impact on the recruits...

I just don't buy that. I've heard it eluded to but SEC can recruit from there now. Why would they need the Aggies to do that?
![]() But maybe it's true. I've never given a shit about that part of it. OU robs Texas of recruits and I'm cool with that.

And I never argued. Hey, UT can't use all of them. Might as well use em' lol Actually. Of 114 players on the listed roster (not sure how current but all I was looking for is an average) it broke down like this; Texas 59 - 52% Oklahoma 32 - 28% Kansas 7 California 4 Missouri 3 Florida 2 New Mexico 2 New Jersey 1 Georgia 1 Ohio 1 South Dakota 1 Louisiana 1 So 52% from Texas. ![]() And 28% Oklahoma And 21% everywhere else. |

It just goes to show it's crazy how much talent there is in Texas. I'm just curious if the SEC is going to try and use the Aggies to try and tap into that further.
I was bored and did some research: There are 245 Division 5A high schools in Texas. Assuming an average of 12 or 13 kids per team graduating each year, that's anywhere from 2,900 to 3,200 high school football players trying to get college scholarships each year. Obviously, only a fraction of those will be considered athletic enough to play at the next level. But that's just from Division 5A. I don't even know where to find the total number of Division 4A, 3A, 2A, or 1A high schools in the state of Texas. Most people would say that you shouldn't include 1A high schools, but just look at offensive lineman Leonard Davis that played for the Dallas Cowboys. He went to Wortham High School (which is a Div. 1A school) but was given a scholarship to attend UT. So, while the odds are much lower that Div 1A and 2A players will get a scholarship, the chance is still there. Now I'm kind of curious how those numbers compare to Florida, who I've heard is supposed to be the second biggest market for high school football talent...

There's no doubt about it. Texas is a gold mine of talented athletes.
But how does having A&M iin the SEC make it any easier to them to recruit Texas? They can go to Texas already if they want to. There are no constraints. Only thing I can think of is maybe the SEC gets on TV in Texas a little more when they play A&M so an SEC coach can use it as a plus? Like tell a kid that when you play here at South Carolina you'll be on TV in your home state of Texas. But even that seems like a stretch.

I was thinking more along the lines of...now coaches can come here and say, "oh yeah, Texas didn't take you? You can come to <insert SEC school name here> and still kick A&M's ass."

The kid wanted to play at A&M but the lure of the SEC was too much for him. Over on VolNation, they are thinking he may decommit from the Vols.I honestly think Texas with the LHN will usually appeal to a Texas recruit first but some may still be lured by the chance to play in the SEC. Quote:
A&M recruits almost exclusively in Texas but also pretty well in Louisiana. They have lost a few recruits (so has Texas and OU) to the SEC because those kids wanted to play in the SEC. A&M moving over may swing some of those home state kids back to A&M. We can all sit here and living room recruit all day long but none of us really know how these kids think or what they will do until the recruiting classes come out. We'll just have to see what happens with recruits in the next few years, but I see the upside to the move. I think a lot of people are thinking the same thing. |
