Yes, I'm sure you could order all of the Ford authorized parts from the Ford parts department at your local dealer, just like we can for our Camaros. The point I was making is that, you can't walk into a Ford dealership, hand them a print-out from that site, and actually expect that Ford can custom make a Mustang just like you want. They'll just laugh at you.

The paint flexibility they show in that site is 100% false advertising. If you wanted a slightly different hue than what's in their "basic" palette, it would require you taking it to a body shop for a completely new paint job.

If you wanted those scoops, or flares, or wheels, or ground effects, or whatever, it would require you going to the parts department and ordering them separately from the car. None of it would show up on the factory window sticker.

False advertising. They just need to make it clear that not every crazy concoction you come up with on that site is necessarily possible to order as a package from your local dealer.

Other than that, though, it is a neat idea to be able to see what different exterior mods could look like on your vehicle (if done right by a professional) before you ever go out and buy anything. Besides that, though, it's just a gimmick.

im not so sure about this part. Alot of those items you mention are available as options on the real config when you build the car. The scoops, wheels, window louver, hood scoop, diff spoiler, 6 different wheel types just for the GT, and a lot of other stuff.

Not as much stuff as on the cool config thing that shows extra stuff you prob have to buy from a 3rd party, but quite a bit of add ons you can get directly from ford and a hell of a lot more than you can get from chevy.

im actually impressed with the amount of options you can configure on the real builder.

now for the customizer, there is a lot of value in that, i dont see it as gimmicky at all. All of the things they show are real items you can get.
Not some one off part that was custom made by some shop to show off at sema, that you will never have an option to buy.
What they are doing is saying, look this is the stock mustang, but here is how you can make it look and all these things are real, not made up. And you can see exactly how they look on the car, from multiple angles. I wish something like this for the camaro was available. Everyday i see a new thread with someone asking to please photoshop something on the camaro.
