It is also there to rub on your nice shiny Whipple and make a mess. Just removed mine!
Whipple told me they recommend to remove it and always do when they install one to lower under hood temps. Take that for what is worth.

The blanket will dampen hood noise, but is intended to protect the paint on the hood from the engine heat. TIS.

Sound and heat insulation. Interesting side note - 4th gen F -bodies that were upfit into SS's, WS6's, Firehawks... didn't have the insulation on those aftermarket ram air hoods. I saw a Firehawk the other day and the paint was peeling off the hood in big chunks. The rest of the car's paint still looked decent. With no blanket, the engine heat had not been favorable to that car's hood paint over the years.

That may be true, but think about the paint is baked on when fresh, not to mention the fact that what is the surface temp of a black car on a 100 degree day. I would bet that is hotter than under hood temps

You forgot to add that as an added bonus it can make the engine compartment look pretty.

It's there so mice don't have far to travel to find insulation for making a nest. Ask me how I know.

I took mine off because I thought it was on there just for looks. Now I'm considering on putting it back on. Though I do like looking at my engine.
