I don't see the problem with that article at all. All they were saying was that the Camaro and vette transmissions have skip shift. They even said that their's is made by a different supplier which would lead someone to believe that they don't have the same problem as the Ford. Funny thing is though, if you read this forum long enough you'll will see that people are complaining about a similar with the Camaros.

Totally understood. What the kicker is, is that the complaints not only center around the shifting "problem"....but they actually were not aware that the skip shift was even in their car. Check out the TSB's they have out to "fix" it. All I know is I got a laugh out of it, thought I'd share......
I know what you mean about the 1-4 gig, I have the same deal with my 04 Z06 Vette and got used to over-riding it with RPM. Now, to me, it's natural, I only grabbed the 1-4 gig once since I got the new SS with the manual. Rather than throw in the skip shift modification I just adjust my RPM up a little in first and never get it. In the Vette, I'd get it a lot....but then again these are different animals. It is easier not to get the first to fourth forced shift in my CamSS for sure. |

Mustang investigated by NHTSA For Gear bOXES
I had heard about a problem with them but this article makes it seem pretty serious for the 2010-2011 Mustangs.http://editorial.autos.msn.com/blogs...4-5dc97b74c218

Eliminate skip shift, problem solved. My MT82 came from the factory without skip shift. Could be the reason I don't have any problems.

What he is referring to is the Tremec TR6060 manual transmissions found in the 5th Gen Camaro SS. The internals are built in China and the transmission assembled in Mexico. I watched for months as people bashed the Mustang for a transmission built in China and laughed at the fact that nobody knew the TR6060 was in fact foreign... It is very difficult to find a manual transmission built in the US anymore but there are several automatics (ie Ford Livonia and the GM Hydra Matic). The Camaro V6's automatic transmission is built in Japan but also has internals from China. I believe the MT82's internals are built in Liverpool, England (the Range Rover MT82's are) but are assembled in China.
Edit: The MT82 transmission is produced in the Getrag Ford Halewood plant in Liverpool, UK and assembled in China (somewhere). The main reason most people cannot find information on the transmssion is because most people do not know the actual global name of the Getrag MT82. The transmission is coded 6MT1500 and is one of the most lightweight, compact gearboxes in the world and has an incredible torque capacity rating at a GVWR of almost 10,000lbs. Here is the actual transmission we have come to know as the MT82, look at what the max torque rating is and what the weight of the vehicle it was recorded at. Lets see Tremec do that... http://www.getrag.de/en/235 Last edited by thePill; 08-09-2011 at 03:01 AM. |
