54 MPG will never actually go through by 2025, because sanity will eventually prevail.
Second, CAFE has so many loopholes, you don't actually need 54 MPG to say you get 54 MPG. For example, I've heard that a Suburban already gets about 35 MPG.

to be honest, if there is a market for it, there is no way manufacturers will stop selling V8s. Yes they will get more expensive, but you know what, it's all about priorities in life. If you really want the V8 be prepared for the $20/gal gas in 2025 and stiff guzzler taxes as well.

I'd worry a lot more about the gm engineers throwing out junk and the damn bean counters destroying the camaro with the 6th-7th gen than i would the government enforcing those new regulations any where near 2025.

well let me ask you this, how much did gas cost 15 years ago? Under $1 right? Well we're 4x that now. This is the new low. Mark my words. multipy by 4 again you get 16. close enough to $20 for me. Even if that doesn't happen. It'll definitely be at least double what we're paying now. I don't know a single 15 year period in which gas didn't at least double in price.

Hopefully they will find a way to mass market the Volt. I won't buy one, but the Camaro needs the Volt and others like it to ensure longevity.

You're using the same logic that 10 years ago says the average house would cost over $500,000 by today. Don't you recognize a speculative investment bubble when you see one? The Malthusians have been wrong for all of human history. What makes you think that will change now?

CAFE stands for Corporate Average Fuel Economy. That doesn't mean ever car has to meet it, they just have to average out. With all the technology coming down the pipe it will be no problem.

I believe that is for the entire fleet. So there is an average allowance for cars that perform under that number ...
or maybe I'm wrong ... either way ... It's Friday afternoon and time for a gas guzzling drive home. |
