I definitely don't think I need to lose any more weight but I would at least like this "gut" to be flatter. I don't think it's fat, I think it's extra skin. I had back surgery back in April and now am fully recovered but wanna go back to the gym and see if I can put on a few pounds of muscle if I can. I know crunches are great for the abs but I'm kinda nervous about my form when I do them cause of the surgery I had on my lower spine, I really don't wanna aggravate anything with my back. Is there anything I can do to try to lose this extra skin?
You can always consult a sports doctor or a trainer about working around your back and ideas on how to work on your midsection. I know extra skin sometimes will fix its self over time, but then there are some who have to have it surgically removed.

A few are (and you can google them for pictures or how toos)
1. Bicycles
2. Plank
3. Russian Twist
4. Jabs with weights

For ab I do the 16 minute Ab Ripper X from P90X. I know you can find it online. And another perk is having strong ab muscles gives you a stronger back. I'm sure Bonnie or CFD or Figgirl can give you a list of stomach exercises to do.

Congratulations on your weight loss! A good approach for you would probably include exercises which strengthen the entire core. Lots of people train the heck out of their abs and don't train the opposing muscles (aka lower back) which can cause problems in the long run. That being said, considering you just had back surgery not too long ago, I recommend consulting your physician for exercises that are right for you. I'd hate for you to re-injure yourself!

Sooo I'm a little burnt out on turkey chili. I'm going to switch to a turkey, veggie and brown rice scramble for awhile. The thought of turkey chili makes me wanna gag. lol. I've been eating it everyday for 7 weeks. Time for a change me thinks.

You should defenitely check with your physician on this.

Typically you should work your abs like every other muscle group. It is a good idea to do ab exercises at the end of your workout, reason being most lifting requires the use of your core so by doing abs after the muscles are already worked you do not need to perform endless crunches. Normally if I chose to I could do many crunches with ease, at the end of a workout if I do 3 x 12 my abs are spent.

My favorite three ab axercises are
crunches
bycycle crunches
russian twists

A good one that doesn't require the typical movements of ab exercises is The Plank. If done properly ( sucking your belly button to butt hole) (actually this is proper technique with most ab exercices) can really give an efective core exercise.

Well I guess it's time to join the ranks, it's time for a cutting cycle, I've not done any cardio for a while and have been eating healthy as always but a bit high on the carbs. My lifts have been very good but have gained a bit to much body fat. I weighed in this morning at 185 so I will be shedding 10lbs to my maintained weight.

I've recently fallen off the wagon. I try to find something good in the bad things that happen. My wife recently found out she has diabetes. My thinking was now maybe she will watch what she eats and that will help me out too. Well that has not happened. I stop get a bagel for a snack or maybe like yesterday a chile dog. We also got sidetracked because now my wife found out she has a large kidney stone too big to pass. She found this out weeks ago and goes to the doctor today ,hopefully , to find out when they can operate. She was sick this past weekend with a fever and just starting eating today. She also is on blood pressure meds plus some others I don't know what they condition they treat. I am five years older than her and other than vitamins and over the counter stuff for my joints , I take no drugs yet. I don't weigh myself very often ., all I know is most of my 34 waist stuff still fits and 36 is too big. Our 10 and half year old daughter encourages us, but even she has been eating too many bad things lately. The good thing , she does gymnastics and rarely is ever sitting still. Okay I'm done I feel better now.

Falling off the wagon happens to the best of us. The best thing you can do is let bygones be bygones and re-focus! Biggest thing -- don't rely on your wife or your daughter when it comes to making the right food choices. You and you alone are responsible for what goes in your mouth! Perhaps it is you that needs to be the role model for them!!

Hard choice, but I think my three favorite abs exercises are:

Crunchy Frogs
Russian Twists
Fifer Scissors

Hope everyone is enjoying working out in the heat. I started a cutting cycle at the beginning of the week, was at 185, now after that one week I'm at 176 but I'm not happy, It's mostly water weight , bodyfat hasn't changed much. I normally don't cut below 175 but I think I'm going to keep going untill I reach my normal bodyfat level but according to the math I'll be at 168 or so, there will be nothing left of me. Gonna give it another week and see if things level off a bit so I can really see what's going on.

Low carbs and memory issues????

Last week on a few occasions I couldn't remember going to bed, what I watched on TV, or even what I had for dinner the night before. It was really bazaar.

I had my cheat meal on Saturday which included some good carbs from sweet potato fries and a small piece of cheese cake.

Viola, memory is back to normal the past couple of days.

Anyone heard of this?

Haha, funny you mention that. I wondered if I was over doing it so I didn't drink much at all and still couldn't remember simple things the next day like what I ate for dinner or whatever.

As soon as I ate the carbs on Saturday though, boom, right back to normal.

It's been a couple of years since I did this low of carbs (50gr or less daily). I do remember having some memory issues, but not like this.
