Oh yeah - I bought a 1934 twenty dollar bill out of the register when I worked at a retail place. Some teenager's parents were probably pretty pissed when they found out what had been taken from their collection!

All I know is that customer service is for the birds. The 10% of the population that doesn't understand or find good manners to be part of their day can pretty much make a day suck. The Deuc&*-Nozzel who threw $21 on the counter for a $1.89 Steel Reserve Deuce and then stated I was a #$%%#@ idiot for asking for his ID...well, I took his $21 dollars and wished him well when he told me to keep the change from what I presume he thought was 11 cents. That four year really enlightened me to what people really are...takes a lot for me to be impressed.

Luckily the officer was a bit older. He looked at me, looked at the $2 bill, looked at the cashier, looked at the $2 bill, then just shook his head.

It's a thankless job that can get to anyone after the 1000 customer. Hello to all, I am new to this site. I stumbled onto it after finding my car listed on Google images for 73 L88 Z28. The pic of my car brought me here. I don't know who linked the two together, but I am honored none the less. I am a former Chevrolet dealer and can answer many of the questions I see listed at Camaro5.com. You guys have some awesome vehicles listed here !

Try this:

When you get a total of say $4.86, give them a $5 bill. Wait til they type it in so it tells them what change to give you back. Just as that happens say, "Oh wait, I have 11 cents". 9 times out of 10 you will get a blank look in return.

But it balances out, because everyone, at some point, has also been the pain-in-the-ass demanding customer who won't shut up and go home despite receiving perfectly good service.
Err I worked at McDonalds all through my senior year of high school and never had a problem with simple math.

Nice to see the milk of human kindess flowing freely towards those less fortunate than yourselves.
Personally I have a number dyslexia sort of thing going on. Despite a 3.6 - 4.0 in all other subjects I failed at math miserably. My 7th grade math teacher gave me a mercy D- and said "I'm doing you a favor so you don't have to suffer through my class again, I can see that math just isn't for you". That was my last math class in high school!
I'm the person who can have momentary confusion over numbers, who does have to be very careful with anything involving numbers so I get it right. I can count change although when someone hands me an odd amount it might take me a little cipherin' to figure it out.
Luckily, as a dog trainer (who can afford to buy a new Camaro because I'm good at what I do), I'm not required to do much with numbers.

Exactly. Even if you think you haven't or didn't. Or especially if you think your haven't or didn't.

Far too many people are deficient in basic skills nowadays.
I actually find it more funny that having five one dollar bills instead of a five dollar bill was a problem for you.

If he gave the cashier the $10, It wouldn't have been 5 ones... It would have been 3 and a hand full of change! he gave what I presume as a ten dollar bill, a one and then 47 cents to obviously get a 5 back. and maybe he didn't need any more ones.

It's the same at a restaurant. If your bill is say $31.50 and you give them two twenties, a one and two quarters and the bring you a five and five ones back... Dumbasses

I worked at RadioShack for a few months when I took a semester off from college. There were a few times when the computer system was down and all transactions had to be by hand.

If I hadn't been working there when those instances happened, I imagine my coworkers would've been freaking out having to do all the math in their head. I became the store calculator for a few hours. You'd think basic addition and subtraction was an alien language these days.

But see, you KNOW you have issues with numbers. And since you KNOW that, I imagine you wouldn't be applying to a job that requires you to work a cash register all day long, would you?

This was clearly not a case where the person had a legitimate dyslexia with numbers issue. They just didn't pay any attention in math class and it showed.

The blank look is probably because they are pissed since you didnt tell them that before they punched the numbers in the register considering it does all the math it also balances at the end of the night as well.
