So without even thinking I jumped out of the car, threw the keys in Eddies pocket and started running at top speed while yelling "help me Jesus!" so that I could get home fast and get everything ready. Eddie had no idea what was happening and I can see why he thought I was running from the cops but in all honesty I was just worried about getting those brownies and punch. You ever been to a church meeting when there weren't brownies and punch? It's not pretty. Makes Vancouver's riots last week look like a nice gathering of well behaved friends.

So, long story short, you gotta believe my buddie Eddie. It's not his fault. Neither Eddie nor I would ever knowingly break the laws of this great nation. The real blame here falls on my brownie and punch addicted church group. Gotta keep those heathens happy. After I found out what happened, I scheduled a special emergency church group meeting tonight where we plan to pray for our friend Eddie and that he be victorious in his battle against the judicial system. And don't worry, I already have the brownies and punch ready for tonight. Peace be with all of you.
you must have had to run pretty far. Miami to Kansas city? wow

I agree with that.

Not one person has said "Yeah what the LEO did was pretty weak." I mean, other than the ticket thing the officer was pretty pleasant and respectful. See?! I can say something good EVEN ABOUT HIM. His reasonless fishing was the problem-My tag was the problem- I complied- He went the extra mile- to make it worse.-My license became the problem. Now I have a problem wondering why I can find ANY consolation amongst purportedly like minded car dudes. I promise to post how this turns out. I shouldn't post now cause now I'm just in a bad mood.
We all hate tickets. Nobody likes to get in trouble with the heat, especially when you have to pay. However, fact is you were breaking the law. They don't need a reason to run your plates, why would they? It's a standard check. It sucks it escalated to a ticket for your suspended license, but guess what. . . none of this would have happened if you weren't breaking the law. He would have run your plates and driven away just like he and other LEO's do pretty much all day.

If he had searched you illegally or treated you poorly, you would definitely have a point, but you just said he was polite and pleasant. He did his job and you broke the law. How can you expect consolation? You were driving with a suspended license and you're making ridiculous excuses and calling the racism card.

You're sure you weren't running because you had the "special ingredients" for these "special brownies" in your pocket?

If by special ingredients you mean tender love and care then you're correct.

it's weird that the OP would think it was a race issue, when he said the cop ran the plates before he even saw the owner of the car...

Well I've read a lot of the post in this threap in response to the OP. I think it could have been worse than it was. Im no expert in law enforcement, and never claim to be one but again it does sound like it could've been worse. Look at it this way, at the end of the day, you got to go home. Not everyone gets that. If you were driving with a suspended license, or not driving but the officer claims you were, etc., they could've taken you in. I've had plenty of tickets in my short 28 years on this earth. More than I can remember or would even like to and I'm a black man as well. I could've pulled the race card a lot of times but I haven't. I got ticketed cause I was in the wrong and got caught. I was at a gas station once, (a gas station I always went to.) and there was a deputy that was leaving when I pulled in. Try parked across the street and waited for me to drive off. I didn't leave right away, made a phone call, smoked a cigarette and left. The deputy followed me for about a mile and pulled me over because I looked "suspicious". Not sure how but that's what he said. Mind you I wasn't dressed like a "thug". Turns out my license was suspended. I had paid the fine for a precious ticket and showed the deputy proof. So the fault wasn't on me but the county because my payment wasn't entered correctly, and the ticket wasn't cleared. But he let me go home, plus a to key for driving with a suspended license unknowingly. I still believe it was because I was black. (Maybe more so cause I was driving my 07 mustang GT..! little joke). But another time I got pulled over and I was clearly wrong. Deputy came up to the car and asked me what the hurry was. I tell him I knew I was speeding but I was alone on a back county road and no one else out there and had been on the road all day and just wanted to get back home. Was that an excuse? No. But the deputy understood, I looked tired as hell at that time. He wrote the ticket for 5 over posted. But I was doing 78 in a 55. The guy was cool as hell, and even asked me about my car and the stripes I just had painted on that week. He didn't have to give me a break but he did. And happy he did. It coulda been worse. Now I can't speak for every single member of law enforcement or the different cities and states they're in. But not every single one is out to get you cause youre black it's just impractical. However, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Now that I've written a book, basically it sounds like they caught you. It coulda been worse. I hope you do get it worked out in your favor though....

You make the rest of us look bad, it's LEO's like you(if you are an LEO) that get
good officers hurt. Sorry guys, but this guy just ticked me off. There was no need for that type of response, especially from an LEO,( that is if he is who he claims to be).
