I must say I am pretty proud of Skip. He has gained a few pounds due to wearing that boot on his foot and the doctor sentanced him to another 4wks. So we went online and researched workouts for people with broken feet and made a workout plan for himself. And he gave me a whole breakdown on his diet when I got home! HE DOES LISTEN!! *que angels singing*

I don't understand what a broken foot has to do with working out but maybe I'm missing something.

I had my appendix out and the doc wanted me to wait 8 weeks before hitting the gym. Ummmmm no. One week and I was right back at it.

Doctors are overly cautious, and honestly if it was just my foot I'd hop my fat ass in there on crutches and go to town. You don't use your foot that much anyway unless it's squats or straight up leg presses.

He actually has a pulled tendon and he is walking with crutches, he is not to put any weight on that foot at all. Hence it limits what workouts he can do. He has been in that book for 4 wks, now for another 4 wks because its not better, and it may be another 4wks if they do an MRI and its not better.

YUCK. He doesn't need his feet to do:

Curls
Bench Press
Shoulder Press
Tricep Extensions
Seated Shrugs

You'll just have to bring him his weights hahahah.

I think he has most of those on his list but I'll double check.

Actually proper form an all the exercises listed requires feet to be squarely panted on the floor, sometimes improper form is more harmful than good. It is always said form is more important than weight

It's not that he can't do the exercises, weight will have to be adjusted accordingly

Well I was going to ask. I read on Livestrong that people with foot injurys can still use a stationary bike? Does that sound right or no?

I'm by no means a doctor but would think it depends on the type of injury. Some injuries may swell or be aggravated by increased blood flow, which is a direct result of exercise. Personally I would listen to my body, if it seems to get aggravated or painful it may be a sign to stop. A lot of times you can work through the pain but may not be the best thing depending on the injury. Also it is possible to do damage that may not be apparent untill the next day or so.

In a perfect scenario having the feet planted will add stability, but in his case that's not an option.

Lighten the weight and you don't even have to have your feet on the ground. Some people actually prefer to have their feet off the ground during bench press exercises to avoid their ass coming off the seat with heavier weight as well. Not my preference, but it is common.

Bottom line, anything's better than nothing......and like I said Doctors are overly cautious.

Maybe I'm hard headed, but I always push through things when pain comes up. That's just part of it when you work out hard. Had to get a few shots of cortisone in my shoulder, but everything still works like it should. I've found that pushing through actually makes it heal faster.

Awesome guys thanks. I think I will have him call his doctor about the bike but tell him to just make sure he keeps good form. I understand pushing through most pain, but he has been 4wks with no pay and now another 4 with the potential of another 4 if he doesnt get better. I dont want to make it worse but he has to find something to do because he has put on some weight. He read that he can swim so he has been donig that on the weekends with his boys.

Yeah you do have to be somewhat careful with tendons. If they get messed up it can be a long road. My buddy hurt his Achilles tendon at the gym, let it heal up for 6 weeks then snapped it climbing on to a boat and was out for a year.

I'm not sure about the bike. The doc probably won't know either unless he's a sports doc. If he can bike with the boot on then maybe, but if it hurts he'll have to stop.

The upper body weight lifting is a no brainer though. If he's putting on weight then he needs to reduce the calories while he's not working out to head it off at the pass.
