Chrysler is Mitsubishi, and I know this because I worked on one a d the engine, fenders, ect. Had Mitsubishi stickers on it. To get true vehicles you have to get premium chevy dodge and fords. All their cheap vehicles are Foreign vehicles with an American brand stamped on it. Ex: chevy aveo. That little car is about as worthless as a 3$ bill. My gf owns a 97 aveo and she's got nothing but probs from it. For the 8000 she spent she got royally screwed. The dealer told her it's made to do 55 not 70mph. She's already had to change wheel bearings in it. Stay away from the cheap crap American companies spit out for profit and you'll be ok

![]() But there's still got to be a line, somewhere... Detroit didn't die because the US Auto companies became more global (Although Flint might be a casualty of this), Detroit died because people stopped buying American vehicles. Which, by the way, I can't speak to with any authority... I'm only 28 and even though I spent most of those years in metro Detroit I was too young to drive when the real quality problems hit the big three in the 80s. I can only speak to my own experience, which has been largely flawless, with GM vehicles. I have a lot of pride in the products Detroit puts out because aside from them putting out great products, it's my home, and GM is responsible for my family being able to live the life they have for longer than I've been alive. It just gets my goat for people to be so shortsighted to say something like "It's a Canadian car" because it was built in Oshawa.

I'm an American car guy.
It wasn't the Japanese, the Koreans, the French, or the Chinese that inspired 44 years of automotive heritage behind the Chevrolet Camaro. Nope. This car was an American formula--A big, RWD muscle machine built out of the love for American 2-lane blacktop, rock and roll, freedom, and fun. |

You can always tell how simple minded a poster is based on how they reply on one of these threads.
If American branded companies do not discriminate which country does what, I don't see why consumers should get all fussed about it. In the end, a consumer should buy the best product. If American branded cars are not selling - your goal as a consumer shouldn't be to persuade other consumers to "buy American", your goal as a consumer should be to persuade the American branded companies to build better product. We went through nearly 3 decades of American branded car "dark ages" because these companies were complacent and produced rubbish. Now that American branded companies have evolved and are beating foreign brands, you as a consumer would do American branded companies a disservice by still maintaining "old thinking" and being blindly loyal regardless of quality. Guide corporate policy with your wallet. If you don't, then you're just asking them to produce rubbish products because you'll buy their product blindly regardless. |

Americans have a great debt of gratitude owed to the imports, they dragged the Big 3 out of the "Good enough for the four years it will last" mindset. But now, it is time for Americans to give American cars a chance. Quality has improved to be in the ballpark with the Japanese, and beats the Europeans. From my experience, as Japanese vehicles get larger they begin to see failure rates more in line with domestic producers. The preponderance of small Japanese cars made their reliability soar, because they were well engineered for their size. As Japanese vehicles get larger, physics comes calling, generating more wear and tear.

I buy whichever car I like the best regardless of who makes it. I am not going to settle for what I think is 2nd best in terms of my needs, wants and budget just because it is made by an American company. Besides it is getting to the point where foreign car companies supply more and more US workers jobs. Unlike the Big 3 who are starting to build more and more of their vehicles in Mexico and Canada.
